A company I used to work for (massive oilfield company who wear blue...), they used to have an orientation day for new employees after completing their week long induction, safety and all that ****e. At the end they take us out for dinner, open bar, with all the big bosses there for a night of enjoyment and relaxing being welcomed into the smurf family. What was really going on was they were watching who was drinking to much, making an arse of themselves, and being a **** head. 3 kiwi wireliners over indulged, and we're sacked for misconduct I think due to them not acting within that companies policies while at a company event making the company look bad... should be in their contract: 1. no drinking 24-hrs before a match and breath tested if suspected of having alcohol on your breath 2. breath tests before any training and 2-strikes and you are out if alcohol found on your breath. 3. Any late night incidents that bring the club into disrepute then nullify their contract, seek to recover any losses and fek them off. These players are on huge wages and their 'drinking culture' is massively disrespectful to the thousands of fans that pay a good chunk of their wages in following the club. When they are on thousands of pounds a week with the chance of even more if they shine, then it should be a 'no brainer' but then again some of them obviously have no brains and it's a shame there are not many coal mines around to show them what real graft was like I am, for one, sick to death of hearing about this 'drinking culture' and would seriously like to see a bit of winning culture. The fans deserve much much better.
Getting rid of Fletcher would be a good start, not exactly waiting with baited breath for Johnson's return either.
With respect, that's just your point of view and opinion, isn't right or wrong, just how you would do things. It has been said on this thread somebody seen Messi drinking the night before a champions league match, that chap doesn't do to bad does he. In my opinion, you can't tell a man not to drink alcohol because of his job unless it is a dangerous profession, which football isn't. Obviously before games etc, would be irresponsible and shouldn't happen. Everybody knows their limits, if a couple of pints on a night isn't going to hinder performance and is done responsibly, where's the harm? Telling a full squad of men they cant drink for nine months is only going to drive morale down. Alcohol can be very good for team bonding too. I don't drink alcohol at all, it's just not my thing. Wouldn't dream of telling anybody else not to do it though. As long as it's done responsibly, then every man has the right to drink.
Actually, as a drinking man I can vouch for the fact that a couple of pints does hinder performance! But let's get real here, they are paid fortunes to keep alive the hopes of thousands of supporters, which is a matter of life and death and poor performances certainly has an affect on the fans moral? If they want to ignore their manager, behave like morons, disappoint and generally piss off the leigons of fans who pay their wages then they can fek off. Go and act like Messi, score wonderous goals, win the premiership and the champions league, then absolutely go and celebrate; there would be thousands wanting to buy them a beer
If someone offered me £50K each week, but on condition that I gave up alcohol, ***s etc for the duration of my employment then I would snap their hands off. Back in the day when a footballer and miner earned similar amounts then I would agree that the club wouldn't have the right to impose these. Nowadays, with the obscene wages being offered to professional athletes then they should be required to keep themselves in top physical condition at all times. so no boozy nights out.
All true, but........ As a fan drinking from footballers isn't something I respect. Basically aside from the physical aspect and reduction of performance of drinking, not drinking indicates dedication, professionalism and respect to your fans, team mates, manager and ultimately getting the maximum out of your ability. If I was a player and had team mates who drank I wouldn't respect their professionalism as much as team mates who didn't drink. Even if they applied themselves to the maximum I'd still think they could do more without drinking. It isn't a major sacrifice in the slightest. If I was a manager I'd request the players not to drink and to be professional. If they did drink and I knew about it then they would be told that I would expect them to show more effort than their team mates to maintain their place in the side. If you're a grown man and want to drink then that is fine, but if you want to be an athlete and I am relying on you to perform in order for my job security then if you want to drink you had better run through walls for the team and me. You get paid £50,000 a week to dedicate yourself to being the best footballer you can be for yourself and you're the club's asset........don't piss about. I reckon I'd be a little Paolo About the whole thing. As mad as he was he had a few things right. Smoking is a flat no. Drinking means you've got to make sure you are **** hot. Ketchup........fine.
And yes, totally agree, this is just my opinion. Doesn't matter how militant I seem about a topic I do know the only person it is definitely right for is me. Very much doesn't make it true or right. I'm quite an intense character about most things and my opinions tend to be centred around my dislike for excuses and people being half arsed. In this case alcohol in footballers indicates ones that are half arsed.
And basing your arguement on something you've just made up is all well and good until I point out how ridiculous that story actually is.
Two things that stand out about this is that it appears in the Mirror (dodgy) and the photo looks hardly conclusive - a man with an arm around Wes's shoulder going down some stairs. Then he hardly looks in an aggressive mood outside - I think I'll wait until more is known. Further, JOS must have become a piss head since leaving ManU where he was known as boring.
Fair enough. But if you or terry could back up his story with any kind of prove id be astonished. I don't even want prove of his story, because that's just completely made up. But prove of him drinking in season would be enough, but I doubt you'll find it.
