I would agree fletcher on form, right now is the first midfielder on the team sheet, althugh I think anderson has the potential to be better, but he is running out of time, he must do it this season
Seems people are getting a bit desperate and simply can't face the fact we won't sign a top midfielder. It is good to hope but in all realness we will certainly not sign Sneidjer no matter how much you convince yourself we will. Suddenly Ferguson's comments mean nothing. Only someone who was not wearing red tinted glasses could see that Sneidjer won't join. I am 100% certain we won't sign a top midfielder. Our central midfielders for next season will be : Giggs, Cleverly, Anderson, Carrick, Fletcher and maybe Park at times.
I guess you have also been told that I am Hizmo as well as Kamran and about another 10 people. People making up rubbish lies to somehow offend me lol. And NO I certainly do not support Arsenal.
You have also been 100% wrong more often than not, so is this really you subconsciously guaranteeing that we will sign a top midfielder?
Who is this top midfielder? Sneidjer Just look at his wages. His price. Age. Injury Record. Starts in the last 3 years. Him wanting to stay in Milan. Inter wanting to keep him. Then you will clearly see why he will not join. Nasri: It is not the first time Wenger has let a player leave on the free and Wenger would rather see Nasri leave on a free than be involved in being forced to sell to Utd. You may well say 20m but I will say that City are also very interested and would without a doubt offer better wages and a fee. Wenger would also rather sell him to them like he has done with other players. Wenger would never sell a key player to Ferguson period. There is NO chance we will sign any of those. Rule out Modric NOW. De Rossi? Nah, too old.
I don't see us signing a CM, unfortunately. I wouldn't quite rule out Modric just yet, as Chelsea have been strongly linked with Pastore over the last couple of days but I'd be wary of the price. Good player but does he contribute enough to warrant a price in excess of £30 million. We've had our hands burnt by Spurs in the past. Don't think Fergie's interested anyway though as Chelsea seemed to be the only club making overtures.
I agree with the need for at least 1 CM. I also do believe SAF could still sign a player after all which manager in answering questions from the media names his transfer targets? SAF also enjoys mind games with his rivals and I wouldnt be surprised at a new arrival soon. In saying that life will go on if the squad remains as it is. Even though our CM is weak, so will be our main rivals since Cesc is bound to leave, and Liverpool have signed Adam, Downing and Henderson to boast their midfield options. City may have strong CM's but will be weaker when the child upfront leaves to go home and Chelsea unless they urgently sign new players or André Villas-Boas pulls something out of the hat, will not seriously worry SAF.
Bayern claim Sweinstieger not for sale after interest from Manchester United. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11881_7062036,00.html Now that would be a fantastic signing, though no usually means no(unless the player is crocked) when dealing with BM.
No he isn't. Fletcher on a good day is a squad player. Even in his best season, he was still far from spectacular. I really don't know how Fletcher has gained a reputation of being a top player. He never has been and never will be. When he first broke through, he was given unfair criticism but now it's gone too far the other way. He gets a level of praise that just isn't merited based on his performances. He played pretty well a couple of seasons ago but no better than that. There were still plenty of midfielders who were better than him. He wouldn't be in my strongest 11 at United, that is for sure. I guess it's the whole "love a tryer" mentality. Very similar to what's happened with Lucas at Liverpool. Both are good squad players but nothing more imo.
I wouldn't believe that. We definitely talked to Inter about Sneijder and I'm guessing a bid was accepted but something's holding the deal up (image rights appaently) I'm sure if the deal was dead Fergie would of mentioned something on that which he hasn't. Whether it's Sneijder or not I still believe we will sign a CM by the end of August.
Agreed. However I highly doubt it will be Sneijder as it has gone on too long, but I do think we will sign a midfielder. Peopel seem to think SAF is going to come out and say ' yes we are in the market for a midfielder' - all's this would result in is clubs increasing prices as they know were want to sign a midfielder.
People should realise how we play. We have NEVER been a team that hounds the opposition into mistakes. We aren't a team that generally looks to close the opposition down unless it is a specific tactic. For the most part we sit back when the opposition have possesion, we even do this at home against "weaker opposition". This works well when we have someone like Carrick in the team but I don't think we adapt to a situation very well, certainly not in the 1st part of the season. I know I often talk about parts of last season but there was a distinct change where our midfield started to become more dominant because we held onto possesion much better. This is why I think we should be looking for a CM that has good ball retention, basically similar to Carrick.
This is true, but part of the reason for that is that we sit back, soak up the pressure, draw the opposition in and then counter attack fast when they are overstretched. We did it to great effect against Chelsea and Man City last season and Arsenal and Milan the season before. But in order to do that we don't just need someone to retain possession, we need someone to use it quickly when we do. Players like Rooney, Park and Nani do this to great effect, as did Ronaldo when he was here. That's why they are so successful at Utd, and play such a big role in our big games. But we also need someone who can use the ball quickly when in central midfield and get the ball to one of our wide men or strikers in a dangerous position. Carrick spreads it well to the wings and starts many of our attacks, but isn't incisive enough to split defences and get men right in behind the way Scholesy used to on a regular basis. That's what we're missing at the moment imo.
The thing with Carrick is that he is nowhere near as mobile as Scholes was/is. If we tell Carrick to push forward, we lose his defensive abilities but we would be more potent in attack because of his passing ability so I think we end up playing safe and using Carrick as a shield and a link from defensive into midfield. But we need that link from midfield to attack. Anderson has the ability to do this, but his passing in terms of accuracy is lacking compared to Carrick but he will at least try and provide that incisive pass. Similarly to Giggs and Park and how they can play in the centre of midfield.
Anyway, has anyone seen Gills comment today that we ARE in the market for world class players in a certain position ! Hopefully some Nohlman sigs on the way
