    You're sort of correct, in a way, in that the singular past form of the verb to be is "was". I was, he was etc.
    But "you" is the plural - the singular form being "thou", which has fallen into disuse.
    So although "you" is now used as the singular as well, it retains its plural indicative "were".

    I voted for myself as I am willing to make ant sacrifice for LFC, and my ploy of guest presenters for the match day thread did not improve our performances

    I hope you defeat this lot heavily.... there's people from Liverpool who I have always found to be great lads , but the other type have always had a massive chip on their shoulder aka the Merseyside makems.

    Definitely hope we stuff them too... Not sure I understand the origin of the Newcastle/Everton rivalry though. Never known a blue that didn't hate Newcastle, nor many toon who had the time of day for Everton. Where did that rivalry between you two begin?

    I believe Everton fans piss was boiled during newcastles rise in the 90s .. Newcastle took a place they felt was theirs.

    The newcastle fans now hate them in return and intend on torturing them until the day they die....they were all over us during the Ashley years along with villa fans.

    They asked for it and they're going to get it basically.
