May I ask all those who have voted to back Hughes just what they feel he is getting right at the moment?
His post match interviews are simply outstanding. "We have to earn the right to play in the Premier League" Fucck off Mark, today.
I've always backed him, but now I'm stuck in the middle. I listened to the 1st half where we started poorly, but from the last 10 Minutes of that half to the whole of the 2nd half which I did watch we were completely dominant and played some great fast attacking football. The only thing missing today was the finishing, taraabt should have banged his chance in easily. What I do blame Hughes for is not buying another striker /finisher at the start of the season, I said we needed four back then. I don't know what more a manager can do with the players we have, because we created enough chances to win it easy today, and he can't run on the pitch to put it in the net himself.... Think I'm still going to back him for now because I don't see anyone else getting us playing better with the squad we have. But he must bring a top class striker and centre back in in January!!
We're only 5 points off safety and just 11 points behind Fulham and West Ham after 10 games. Nothing really!
I was there and I can assure you that we weren't "completely dominant" all through the 2nd half. Yes, Taarabt should have scored and Cisse was a whisker away with the last kick of the game, but Reading always looked likely to nick it on the break and We still gave the ball away alarmingly throughout the 2nd half. A new manager may just play the right team....just a thought.
If I had to make a decision now, it would be sack. Never said that before but I think 10 games is enough to see where we're at. We've gone backwards since the games against the big clubs. Players aren't responding to MH, heads have dropped, they're confused about the way they should play. What started as a symptom has become a raging disease. Hard to see how we can turn this around. Guaranteed to concede, can't score more than a goal a game. How are we going to win the 10 or so games required to keep us up?? All the talk about turning it around is nothing but an assumption. An incorrect one too. We're no closer to winning now than we were after the swans game.
After tonight it's all about whether he retains the confidence of the players that'll decide his fate. If he doesn't he's a dead man walking (all the way to the bank). If he does, then finance (cost of buying him out and someone else in) and a bit of luck could yet save him. If all things were equal, no costs involved and someone (like Ranieri for example) were available, I wouldn't hesitate to get rid. But all things are far from equal and money has to be a major factor that's sure to split the board if not the dressing room. For these reasons I can't vote one way or the other atm.
I wanted Hughes out after his appalling performance in the West Ham game which was the worst in a desparate 9 months- what the f*kk is he still doing there is beyond me. With the players we have we have we ought to be closer to midfield than the bottom 3. Can't see that retaining him is a defensible position now - how much worse will TF let it get?!
I voted him to continue backing him, for the moment. My previous deadline was end of October but I have extended it to the Saints game. Probably foolish and can't think of a good reason for it except that I think sacking Hughes would set us back hugely. If we haven't picked up 3 points in the next two, then I am 100% in favour of getting rid then.
I will go for that. We're not dead and buried yet and created more chances than we have in many games (as we should do at home to Reading). Confidence is short so we just need to scrape (or scrap) a win by any means. If it's not working in 2 games then I'll sign up to the Hughes out club.
