Me too. I think we'd do better if we picked a team of Championship players rather than the Premiership knobeds.

People like Terry, Lampard, Ferdinand just don't put in the effort when we play some of the smaller nations. Playing for your country at an international tournament should be enough on it's own to raise your game, you shouldn't need to be playing a top nation.

I think there genuinely is a case for this sort of policy. Teams like Norwich and Swansea for starters have players who truly care about the club, and that would only be continued at international level. Taking the best players from outside the top 6, including the top of the championship (which is still a higher standard than many national leagues), supplemented by a couple of youngsters from the top teams who haven't yet become disillusioned by money, and I think you'd have a squad capable of posing a genuine threat to other nations. Rather than a team of overpaid players who care more about the wage than the team, the England football team should be composed of players prepared to give absolutely everything for the team. To me, this would overcome any small deficiencies in their first touch, etc.

ouldn't agree more about Pearce. He seems a good motivator which is all you really need. If these ngland players are so bloody good then a manager or coach doesn't need to tamper much does he? Just tell them his tactics pick the starting line up and then fire them up.
Failing that, offer them £10M per game, sorry, per half.

Also, can anyone imagine Capello watching Norwich? It'll never happen, but Ruddy surely has to be in the England squad as second or third choice keeper, by my reckoning, the current English keepers are:

Joe Hart - first choice
Scott Carson - away playing at a Turkish club, nobody really seems to know how he's doing, made mistakes in his previous England appearances
Chris Kirkland - always injured
Rob Green - never recalled after his howler
Paul Robinson - retired from international football
David James - too old and playing at a lower level
Ben Foster - a possibility, not someone I can recall too much about
John Ruddy - playing well, made some blinding saves and on form, why not?

Others: Scott Loach, Joe Lewis, Lee Camp, Frankie Fielding, anyone else?

Stockdale, McCarthy?

Ok, I was joking about McCarthy!!

<laugh>

For what it's worth my choice is Pearce for England

On dropping Terry, i can't understand why it makes a difference if he's being investigated by FA or CPS... In most industries a serious accusation would result in someone beoing suspended from duties while it's investigated. No need to wave the innocent till proven guilty flag. He's England captain and under serious investigation... Drop him from the team not just captaincy.

How come people are calling innocent until proven guilty for terry, but the same day Hune was "resigned" from the cabinet because he was charged, same as terry.
We can't be lead at a major Tornement by a man who is accused of racial abuse towards the brother of an England team mate. Glad he was sacked, hope he's dropped from the side. If guilty I hope it ends his career.

Regardless of the case against Terry I don't believe:

1: He shouldn't be captain because of whats happened in the last year or so....

2: I don't even believe he is 1 of the best 4 centre backs of English nationality at the moment anyway!

With regards to Capello there's no denying his pedigree as a manager but i do believe we need someone who is ENGLISH and has a passion for this country. Redknapp is an obvious choice but feel the current court case will scupper his chances plus I don't believe he'd want to leave tottenham at the mo. Who does that leave? Pearce would be good as he's been in the setup for years but am sure he's said he wouldn't want the job yet, who does that leave?? If there is no englishman to take the job then for me there's only one man for it......

Mourinho

Contraversial yes but the man has the ego and the talent to maybe do something with our players that no one else has managed!!!

England has needed a fresh start for years now I'd say since the World Cup in 2006. Since then it has lacked discipline, has been tactically behind in comparison to other countries. Sack off the dead wood and we've got some brilliant young players coming through the ranks. So long as we have a decent go at the Euro's.

As for English football the whole culture is wrong from a grassroots level when we're kids playing football on Saturday mornings. The problem we have is we focus too much on building a good engine someone who can run around for 90 minutes or has blinding pace, footballing skill and technical ability is ignored because we're too impatient to pass the ball about. This is why we won't win anything because we churn out athletical players with an excellent work rate by the dozen but they never have much end product.

Agree completely Northamptonnfc. As someone who was rejected as a youngster for being to small and not physical enough yet had a good footballing brain our mentality is wrong. I watch my 9 year old nephew on sundays and is frustrating to see a big lump up front who they're told just to kick it up to him and let him out muscle everyone else with no skill and ability. The emphasis is too much about winning at all costs as opposed to playing good football and that is where the probem lies.

It's unfortunately an English disease we're too direct it becomes predictable especially at an international level. The mentality of how this country approaches football is dreadful I'd go as far to say embarrassing at times.

I'd like to see Owen Hargreaves get his FIFA badges at some point and give England a manager option with some Euro vision. (i'm not talking about the song contest). Perhaps Waddle should have go for it too.

Loved Chris Waddle as a player, also not bad as a pundit, the one thing about him that irritates me, if a foul is called in the box, according to him, that's a pelanty

Waddle was a brilliant player... I read that Marseille fans loved him so much that when the stadium was re-painted (white-washed) the only piece of graffiti that they left on the stadium wall was "Chris Waddle est magique"

You can't give a geordie grief about the way he speaks even if he is a pundit :emoticon-0102-bigsm

No chance of a change in management before the Euros, will have to put up with this dross for a little longer. I'd love to see him sacked and replaced by just about anyone. Hell, pick a captain and let him pick a team and just let the players sort it out on their own, it couldn't go any worse! I'll do it for £200 a week! I'm sure I'm a better motivator than Crapello!

This fella gets my vote, sort of back to the playground team selection.
I don't want to put you under any pressure Simpleton, but I would suggest Grant Holt may be a good place to start.
