I'm puzzled because I thought it looked like we had a few promising youngsters coming through last year who were going to get their chance and really push on this year. I thought we were going to integrate the likes of O'Connor, Hyam and Carson into our first team but it just isn't happening. Keane did quite a few strange things in his time here but he did at least throw some of the young'uns in at the deep end and give them a chance. Is it because PJ doesn't trust them, what does he see in training that we don't? If I was him I would be at the point now where I don't trust the majority of my first choice eleven and actually punish (for want of a better word) them by having them playing reserve team football for a few weeks whilst the reserves get their chance to show what they can do. Results couldn't possibly be much worse and at least the young'uns would be gaining vaulable experience. You know how the saying goes 'you can't teach on old dog new tricks'. We need to hit these big name players where it hurts, in the pocket. If you stop playing them or including them in the squad they won't get their appearance money, maybe that would make some of them perform a bit better. Most are probably so well off that they couldn't give a toss about that either though.
Warky...a cheque is in the post ..ha! Seriously, you talk much sense and as one who is passionate about the Young, as ex-head teacher and Youth offender service, I share your concerns about our youthful talent. And the stupid loss of youngsters who we have trained up, funded and honed to a level of borderline Premiership players. Mpreover, they do have loyalty and determination to play for their club, put their bodies on the line, unlike some senior players it seems. But I disagree about PJ. I dont think it sensible from any point of view to sack the man now, tho I can understand the emotions running high. Maybe I will change my tune Saturday..I am driving up! Still love the place, the turf and the supporters. Lets hope that Notts Forest are even worse than us!
Superman, your right the lack of goalkeepers for England is quite worrying, although Stockdale is probably the best in this division. By god he's had enough practice this season!! Actually Cresswell is surprisingly good at defending and not bad in the air either for someone of his height!! The one thing that has amazed me aswell is his consistency for such a young player. I would be surprised if he didn't end up in the premierleague eventually. He reminds me slightly of Leighton Baines. As for the others, yes they are talented but like I've said alot of times on this post, they're just not coming up with the goods atm. We have more than enough quality to be up near the top of the league. And balance is vital for anyteam, something which I think Lambert is an expert at getting right. Again completely agree with your post Svendust. I think as stretchyboys says we are going to just have to ride this one out. If we can stop the rot as you say I think Jewell can do well for this club but its just, can he stop the rot?? To many more performances like yesterday and I don't think there will be much other option than to sack him.
