There are no prisoners taken in football.
SOD was truly awful for us. Yes, some good signings - but horrible results, playing horrible football, followed by horrible interviews.
It didn't work out - but it MIGHT have done if the moon had been in a different place in the sky and the wind blowing in another direction - there are never any guarantees when selecting managers - and it might turn out right for him elsewhere. Because you fail at one club it doesn't mean you will always fail.
Look at Tony Pulis for example - a HORRIBLE manager for us - absolutely hated by the City fans - and yet took Stoke into the premiership and developed them into an established top-flight side. Perhaps if we had stuck with him we could be where Stoke is..(?) who knows.
Another City example is McInnes - tipped for great things and made us a bookies favourite for promotion at the start of his tenure - yet we all know what happened next (SOD and relegation!!!)
There are loads of other examples; David Moyes, an Everton legend, hand-picked by SAF to succeed him, and yet he couldnt manage Man Utd despite their infinite resources and the pick of the world's best players.
Graham Taylor - fantastic for Watford, not once, but TWICE getting them into the top flight, but God-awful for England, gaining the rather insulting nickname 'The Turnip' and becoming a subject of ridicule and dispair.
Joe Kinnear - unbelievably successful with Wimbledon - an amazing feat given the size of that club, keeping them in the Prem season after season and winning the FA cup, yet has failed to shine with any of his other footballing ventures.
Would I have SOD back? NO WAY, but I don't hate him and wouldn't bet against him being successful at another club.
