One of the reasons I gave up my season ticket, no fun anymore, league one footy is dire, I gave it one season, the officials, the opposition, the ****housery, the **** pints, salmon pants, selling maja, pompey fans, jack dross, I’d rather sit on my sofa and spend the money on my kids

I know what you mean but for me its the really bad times like now that make the good times all the more worth it.

I do look back on some of the stick I gave some players for not being quite good enough (in my eyes) when we were in the Premier League and realise how lucky we were at that time and I was harsh. You don't always appreciate and realise what you had until its gone. Next time round I have vowed to myself I will be more patient and I suppose fair.

It’s not just Sunderland it’s the nature of the football fan, we always want more, the title needs the double, the double needs to treble, the treble the quadruple, Peter Reid is the worst example for us, sir Bobby is the worst in footballing history at the mags, footy fans just want it all

Personally i'd rather stay in league 1 for a couple of seasons and build a foundation for the future rather than throw daft money around to try and finish 17th in the PL.

  7. Agree that time out of the PL does provide the time to rebuild and secure a sound foundation for improvement....particularly with the development of young players, which is almost impossible to do in a struggling PL team.
The problem is the longer we are away from the top flight, the wider the gap we have to bridge, which is why it is so imperative we get some sound backing and strong, intelligent leadership without any further delay.Covid aside, this league is here for the taking this year, and to miss out will be an act of criminal negligence. Overall,it's essential that when we do get back to the PL we are in a position to benefit from the opportunities it will provide. If we're not, we can expect more of the same yo-yoing and failure we've had for the last 20 years more or less.
Securing a place in the PL isn't enough on its' own....we need to be ready to sustain regular high levels of performance.

Which was the point that i was trying to make.

If we were able to gain successive promotions, then without a plan we'd be screwed.

Thing is, the EFL has made it harder than ever to build a progressive plan to even get out of League 1 & 2 with the Salary cap. With a 2.5 mill ceiling on wages in this league we can only attract a lesser type player if we cant throw money at it been the size we are. If we get promoted with the squad we have it will be a full on turnover of players again to push to the Premier League. The whole Salary cap stinks with regard that it doesnt consider turnover of clubs to what they can spend.....It is more or less designed to keep league 1 & 2 clubs as league 1 & 2 clubs

    Agreed.

What i think we'll end up seeing is a small number of "marquis players" on a higher wage and clubs relying on youth. Remember U/21's don't count.

I believe that this is not only being implemented for sustainability but also to foster the growth of England youth talent as more clubs will be encouraged to play them.

In a nutshell, a club could sign 11 20 year old Messi's or equivalent and not breach the cap regardless of how much they pay them. The focus for league 1 and 2 has to be youth moving forward.

Kittens is a particularly, but typically, sad case and still sniping at me on the other forum.

Despite his relentless contradiction of anyone posting positive takeover news he's now posting, without any sense of hypocrisy,
"I reckon we'll know who it is in the next 10 days."

FFS man, it's absolutely pathetic <laugh>

He's spent the last month posting, over and over, that nothing is happening.

    Now,
"I mean my personal opinion is that something is happening."

And this is the man who's jumped on anyone saying something is happening.

spot on, the sustainable football argument was trotted out as the main reason for the wage cap.

rochdale being able to spend the same amount on wages that we can does not make it sustainable. That amount could be significant as a proportion of income for them and put them in real danger.

wages as a proportion of turnover is a much better measure to support sustainability.

If they had said it was about handicapping the bigger clubs in then the wage cap in its current format would have been more accurate

People always claim that promotion to the PL is worth £200m or whatever.

That's fine but £199m is spent on wages, signings, agents, etc.

Without spending huge amounts it's virtually impossible to win the league, Europe has become messy to be involved in and even the cups are dominated by the big clubs.

I'd settle for a policy of playing all out attacking football in whichever division we're in.

Otherwise we'll become what we were and what Newcastle are ...

... grinding along defensively clinging on to the PL for the TV money.

Find it strange and slightly amusing that people immediately take information on here and put in on the RTG.
