On a golfing question, my son was invited to a corporate day at Royal Birkdale. I played there myself 40 years ago, and a green fee then from memory was 40 quid.

He told me that a green fee now is 400 pounds during the week, 450 on a weekend. Staggering amounts.
That’s ridiculous. Local driving range does a bucket of balls for £6.

The Bank of England inflation calculator estimates that £40 in 1985 is the equivalent of £125 today, so, yes, this is a significant mark up.

It's the Trump model, only a little bit cheaper! Book about Trump and golf I read recently, he actually says golf should be restricted to the elite, those who've achieved something in life (by his standards). The riff-raff don't belong on a golf course.

So he won’t be playing golf with Musk and the fellow billionaires club members of which he falls short. Could caddy I suppose.
