I think there's a big difference between how the Dark Mandarins of the Sinister European Experiment choose to categorise us and what we might consider us to be. Just because some unelected arsehole decides I'm British, European, Earthling or a three-brained lizard creature from the planet Zonk doesn't make him right and me wrong.

All your observations are correct. However, it was lovely to see it happen to others instead of the English team/players getting sawn off. Remember Ronaldo's wink after Rooney was sent off that time?
I was loving it as wine-master was moaning and whinging his way off the pitch! All Guadiola's teams play act and get players booked......what goes around and all that!

You can call yourselves what you like but most of us here are citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which is a part of the European Union, which it what it says on the passport. As far as I am aware there England is geographical area, not an administrative unit, unlike Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. If you get in trouble abroad you seek the hep of British, not English, officials, as the latter don't exist. If you don't like it vote Tory/Ukip and have your say at the inevitable referendum. We are also more likely to have "English" on our passports if the Scots get independence.

It is never worth entering a debate on these matters with Immigration officials at passport control. Why should they care about the niceties of the "English" ego.

True.....but the EU would like England to be just that.........an administrative zone of Europe, governed by unelected, corrupt officials in another Country.

    Not for me!
And yes.........we can all call ourselves what we like, but it's only ever the English who get criticised for calling themselves English. If the Scots, Irish or Welsh do it, everyone applauds their National identity.

Giggs was right to say that IMO
He can and he loves his club and looked class last night
Munich are total class and Ribery is close to being the best player on the planet now but United played well against the best current side in the world ... That doesn't mean they can't be beaten
Beautiful European football but Giggs knows that United can be that good again
The difference is easy it's the way you think and the UK has a knackered chip set until that changes they won't win much in this game

Fair enough Col, though I think our own elected and unelected officials are just as corrupt (and depraved) as EU ones.

I'm not sure just who is criticising people for calling themselves English.. new one on me. Looks to me as though the Scots and Welsh just have a stronger sense of national identity (which is probably down to them feeling justly or unjustly 'oppressed'), the English have a more diverse and regional focus, and that sadly the notion of "Englishness' has (unfairly) been appropriated by cretins like the EDL.

All I know is that anybody holding me up in a queue at immigration through having a debate about whether they are British or English, will, just like the twats who are too busy sitting down, stuffing their faces and staring at a tiny screen on a 5 hour flight to fill in their immigration cards before they actually get to the desk, probably be hearing my views of them loudly broadcast. It will delight you to hear that, in my experience, the French are especially challenged when it comes to filling in the ****ing form, especially galling when they have already pushed into the ****ing queue.

Your truth mate. Not the truth from my point of view. Swcheisteiger well earned his second yellow. There was no need for that (far away from own goal) just pure stupidity and referee has no choice.

I remember Ronaldo's wink, Col, but I also recall Rooney having stamped on someone and deservedly being sent off. He should have got all the stick that Beckham got after getting sent off in similar circumstances against Argentina, but more venom was directed at Ronaldo for the wink.

Schweisteiger's challenge last night on Rooney was foolish, and was, I thought, a foul, but was certainly not deserving of a yellow card. Rooney's theatrical dive fooled the ref imo.

Watched it over and again in slow motion. He goes in under control, on the ground, from the side, and gets the ball. Never a yellow, the refs been conned there, same as he was by Vidic. And if this WAS a yellow, then Valencia should have been at least booked, if not a straight red.

It's all immaterial now, but if the ref had been sharper, it would all have been different.

Scweinschtaiger was foolish to even make a sliding tackle in their attacking area after he had his firs yellow already ( or was that wrongly judged too?) Maybe Rooney was flying little high after the tackle but are you really serious that he could have avoid his falling. As col says before guardiolas teams are not saints when it comes to "filming" (robben for example) so it just serves them right.

It was a tackle. It wasn't a foul. Sliding tackles are prefectly OK - anywhere on the pitch - if the player s in control, on the ground, not showing studs, and gets the ball. Schweinstiger did all of this, and would have been fine had Rooney not thrown himself down in a manner even Ashley Young would have been proud of.

Just because Robben is a diver, does that make it OK? No of course it doesn't.

It was a foul but it wasnt necceserily a yellow but schweisteiger gave ref a chance to give him yellow. Nowadays it doesnt always help you if you touch the ball first if referee sees it as a dangerous tackle. IMO it is stupid to even argue about that tackle because it was a bit foolish tackle to make. All in all you could call rooney a exaggerator if it makes your day. Bayern will trash utd in the second leg so dont worry.

I thought they did really well, with 5 or 6 players out injured, playing at home, getting a draw seems like a good result ;)

Sorry, but it's not about 'making my day', it's about the referee giving everything possible to United. And it's not about United still being in a tie that, on balance, they didn't deserve. It's about refereeing standards, something I've been angry about for a long time.

When you say he 'gave the referee the chance to give him a second yellow' that says it all. the ref shouldn't be interested in that kind of thing, he should be making the right calls for the play in front of him, and he got this - and a fair few others - very wrong last night. I'd even say that he got Wellbeck's "goal" wrong as well - very borderline decision, very early on. I hope he didn't then spend the rest of the match trying to make up for it.

OH no Colin believe me that this country has its fair share of corrupt officials in fact they may well of invented the term corrupt official... They aren't just from Europe ... interested to know what your rates are ... for what? We have two houses (well Mrs DT) in London and have to phone both borough councils each month to complain about rubbish collection or lack of the collection part ... I pay 85 Euros a year in France and my rubbish is collected and 100% recycled 3 times a week. I don't pay for the water to be taken away from my house in France and if the Marie stops working for the people then he gets a burning sheep put in his 2CV.

The UK is a big rip off and now has to stay that way because the sheep here are all wandering around in a dizzy haze waiting the milk of Tesco's titty

I found Bayern were very good, but apart from a few occasions in United's box they were pretty boring. They ran continually into space and played the safe passes to each other. Bayeralona really. United played far more on the edge, with many potentially game winning passes, and were far more exiting to watch for me - they seemed to get the neutrals in the Pub on their side. I think and hope they will win the 2nd game.

Im afraid i cant agree with you mate. Its the difference between matter of opinions. IMO referees were quite good and did not affect on result.
