I haven't ever said the performances have been bad, the players have done whats been asked of them. I've complained of the set up and I still believe we'd have far more points now if the shackles had been released in the appropriate games. I am saying it will force him to change his playing style (which it will), in order for him to score goals. He will not be able to resort to the easy ball and freekicks that he loves so much. I still think defence will be his main concern, and if things don't go our way early on he will revert to type. Considering that I've constantly advocated a foreign policy on players I find it incredibly strange that you think you are rubbing it in. The movement is towards my own way of thinking, not yours. We will wait and see whether the manager will have the balls to carry on or revert to type if things don't go our way. I don't know and neither do you know how we will play next season until the midfielders are bought, that will explain far more than any striker. My own suspicions are he will be very much the same but with an emphasis on pace in the midfield. That would be the next logical step because it involves the least amount of progression to succeed, not my cup of tea but there you go.
I tend to agree, signing a high quality striker in no ways means CH will adopt a more attacking striker, by what logic?? Having a quality striker may mean a greater conversion rate of the few chances that come along and the greater mobility means the striker might be in the right place at the right time. So, we could just see more of the same, as I implied earlier, we will need different midfielders to become a more a fluid team
What a fantastic signing! I'd have done unspeakable things for him to sign for us, congratulations! The only reservation I have is how will you afford him if (I don't think you will btw) you go down? Or is there a clause that would call it off? But again fantastic signing I'd be ecstatic if I was a Canary.
It's nothing to do with RVW being "foreign"; it's the type of player he is. And incidentally, I too have consistently advocated bringing in players of non-British Isles pedigree. Re. your saying "the movement is towards my own way of thinking, not yours", the argument is not about your way of thinking or mine. It is about Chris Hughton's way of thinking. He makes a signing which you describe as "a movement towards your way of thinking"; why not accept that it is, in reality, an indication of HIS way of thinking and an indication of HIS plans for the future? Re. midfielders, in contrast to your pessimistic expectation of "the same as before but pacier", I anticipate a greater emphasis on attacking midfield creativity. As you say, time will tell; there will be further evolution in the summer but we won't get to the promised land by August that's for sure.
What a signing! Can't wait to see who else we bring in over the summer. Hopefully we can produce the goods on the pitch.
People seem to forget we actually made this bid aswell in January, so had we signed him and still went down what would happen... easy we would sell him. If we go down, then he would be sold probably for a profit. Hopefully we won't come to that point though.
If that horrific scenario happened I don't think McNally will allow us to get in that financial mess, I can't see us pissing the parachute payments down the drain and buying a load of rubbish.
We have spent money from this seasons budget not next season, so the risk is the same if we had spent it last summer, January or now! We wont go into bother over it, mcnally would make sure of that. The only bad outcome of this deal would be if hes a flop. Not if we go down!
RVW's scoring rate has been consistently good throughout his career so far, so it's hard to see him 'flopping' now. I'm not sure 'force' is the right word for the potential change in tactics as CH seeks a balance between defence and attack. I think we have to wait to see who else comes in. For me, it would be a creative midfielder who reads the game well and passes consistently well, a quality CB and a quality LB to sign along with Garrido. The emphasis is on quality not quantity now.
I think Hughton would be daft to spend that sort of money and he will end up feeding on scraps next season. I can see a couple of midfielders come in, especially on the left wing. I could see Pilks or Surman leaving or possibly both.
It would indeed be daft, on CH's part, DM's part, the boards's part, and RVW's part. But then some of us think that CH is not only daft but also fear-driven, lacking balls, unimaginative, tactically inept, and cloned from a cross between Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis! Wonder why he didn't try to sign Andy Carroll; DM must have told him the money doesn't run that far .........
Andy Carroll might have done ok with us this season. Anyway, exciting signing and good use of the budget outstanding this season. Loans sorted in May, then the new Sky $ and hopefully a couple of quality new midfield / defenders to follow.
My post wasn't a pop at Hughton, my point was more that strengthening midfield was fairly inevitable after RVW's arrival.
DM has already indicated that further strengthening will go on, but I still think the emphasis will be on quality rather than quantity as the 'evolution' continues. 12 of the 25 players next summer will already have been brought in by CH and I reckon that'll move up to at least 15 out of 25 by the end of the summer window.
I didn't read your post as a pop at Hughton, YellowLittle. On the contrary, I read it as agreeing that Hughton isn't daft, so he isn't buying RVW just to run about thanklessly up front on his own.
