Thank you for your feedback guys on earlier comments. I did not even bother with extra-time as the writing was on the wall. And so it proved. As with a number of other teams like Argentina and Portugal, the Spanish cycle is coming to an end and they will have to rebuild. Germany do it rather quickly, with the French it has taken a decade, the Dutch will come good again as will the Italians in due course. While the Spanish will no doubt feel sorry for themselves, they are a philisophical lot. I also think they put more emphasis on gaining success at club level rather than in international competitions. It happened in 1966 where their clubs were dominant but the national side disappeared in a wimper.

Not sure I’d fancy seeing Sisto coming in for the second half of extra time if I was a Croatian defender
