Yeah that’s the sad state of football. Rangers and other teams were always built on a British base of about 6/7 players, now you struggle to find 1 in the starting line up. Rangers have about 5 British starters which is incredible these days. I very rarely watch the EPL games because of this.
Celtic and Rangers have a great past but realistically they are never going to achieve much outside of Scotland in the future.
Depends what you mean by past? Wasn’t that long ago we were in a European cup final and we were very lucky not to win it. We probably would have gone further last year if Phil had stayed on. I remember the European nights against TWS, it was honestly something else. In that far enough back or are you thinking longer than that? We do need to get back to winning domestic trophies first, but other competitions are not out of our reach once we get going again.
The 1967 Celtic team was a one off, never to be repeated...All but two of the 15 man squad, who became the first British side to win the European Cup, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon, were born less than 10 miles from Parkhead. Imagine, say an Arsenal team, winning the Champions League with the bulk of the team born less than 10 miles from their stadium. I'm confident that that will never happen.
It was great when done right, the Barca team that pioneered it was just unreal. But like with everything some people just take things way too far until it just became a game of keeping possession purely for the sake of having possession.
Those stats look superb when compared with Russell Martin. I was in Glasgow a few weeks ago when they got pumped by Brugge at home. Quite a few wanted Gerrard back.
