I think there is a misunderstanding here. There is a 'fit and proper person' test for organisations who obtain broadcasting licenses in the UK (similar to the 'fit and proper' test for football club owners, I guess and we all know how well that works!). The Committee cannot demand Murdoch's resignation or sack him of course. But what they are doing is telling Ofcom to investigate whether BSKYB (39% owned by News Corporation, with Murdoch as Chairman) is 'fit' to retain their UK broadcast license. I can't see the Board or the shareholders risking it and I expect Murdoch will 'retire' very soon.
If I am murdoch and i have billions anyway, bye, pull my cash out of the PL, Sky, Papers, everything in the UK and bugger off bac to australia, and stick 2 huge fingers up to everything UK. The UK is ****ED while these bell-ends think they have a clue about anything other than breathing to stay alive. Murdoch has controlled the press since the 70s and kept Maggie in power thereby suitably rewarded. Totally ruthless in his dealings and ran hate campaigns against any opposition. Tony Blair went to him in New York to sell the New Labour and the Sun was used as an election winner. Introduced chequ-book journalism and undercover stings via NoW and now its got too dirty the politicians want it stopped. Horse - bolt etc. Modelled his BSkyB along the lines of Kerry Packer's breakaway channel in Aus that changed the shape of cricket. Time will tell if he became the ruination of global soccer.
