Should players running their contract down be treated with respect. I think they are total prats and bring the sport into disrepute. We have Meslier who has had no chance of playing for us in the league for the last year. We should have forced him out last January when we were getting decent offers for him. A year on and we are still getting offers for him and he could go now and the club who gave him a career and premier league football would at least get back what we paid for him, but he wants to sit it out and carry on picking up his wages for doing nothing and then in June walk away on a free transfer where he can pick up a big signing on fee. In my view he has shyt on the club and fans.

Marc Guehi could have gone to Liverpool last summer but he wants to stick around and walk away on a free transfer. Man City this week have offered him a massive wage increase and agreed to pay his club a huge transfer fee but again it’s all about shytting on his club and fans and will hang around for another 6 months and then walk away on a free.

I hope these and all the other players in that position don’t get the moves they were expecting or the wages and signing on fees.

Its a huge risk for the player. If they get a serious injury then they get no contract.

I voted yes but the question was worded badly for me. I wouldn’t say I was “on the side of the players” but they have every right to honour (see out) their contract. If the club fails to cash in at the right time or extend the contract so they can get some money for the player, the fault lies with the club. Secondly, in the real world, who wouldn’t do the best for themselves when changing jobs?

Cant disagree with that and put the whole situation down to the club but I still detest those players who really don’t give a fook about the club and fans and only see £ signs.mi hope they get pox and their wives shag their mates, all,of them

Nature of the modern game innit. Players have alot of power but to be fair clubs can ruin players career.

Let's take Harrison for example. He clearly doesn't want to be here. Leeds don't really want him. Nobody will match the deal he is on. He will be stuck on the bench for the rest of this season and all of next season. Yes he'll earn a load of money but his career at the top level is effectively over at this point.

None of his clubs will remember him fondly and he won't be welcome back at any of them once he has retired.

It is what it is.

Still waiting for the club to own up to which swinging dick overruled Orta when he had sold Harrison to Leicester for £22m, yes twenty two million quid! Think it was our glorious leader Marathe who cancelled the deal even though Harrison was in Leicester, he brought him home and gave him a pay rise and a new contract! Lets hope he has nothing to do with the new stadium building plans

This is the outcome when you mix money and loyalty.
The selling club( who are now not making a sale) probably can’t afford to replace that player with another of the same calibre due to PSR. They lose out.
The buying club ( who now do not have to pay a fee) have made an excellent signing.
They win.
The player makes more money and gets to go the club of their choice. They win.
Loyalty, selling clubs fans lose out and are pissed off.
Buying clubs fans think they have a great deal and are well happy.
Player fulfilled his contract so sees he has done no wrong.

There is no right or wrong answer, if the player was a family member or close friend of yours what would you advise them?

My recollection Doc… and it was just what was reported later… is that radz wanted to sell him because it suited him to have the cash ahead of the club sale. Orta wanted to keep him.. and it was orta that went to marathe. Fairly sure that was in the Athletic… but I’ve been wrong before
