I'm not sure how 'proven' Kjaer is though. Looked good in the Italian league, but that's a very slow game. Haven't seen enough of him to decide one way or another. Birmingham certainly missed Dann though.
I think the majority of players we will sign will be English. Remember were not in Europe so the concentration for next season is domestic titles. I think its very wise to get players that will work hard every game and have the quality to get us back into Europe, when we can start to get the International talent. Remember this is project guys, a rebuilding period. I think the likes of Young, Adam, Dann, Baines and Henderson will improve us and help get us back in the champions league, and then players like Hazard and Aguero can be bought to re-establish us at one of the top teams in Europe. Saying that, I think we may get Mata as well though
proven in he has played champs league, international, that sort of thing. Obviously it didn;t go so well at Wolfsburg. If we are going for a young CB we should be looking at Hummels from Dortmund.
Suarez, just what we talked about! Got this from soccernet.com A 'WORLD EXCLUSIVE' (capital letters and all) from the Daily Mail , which says that Liverpool are set to complete a double swoop for Blackburn defender Phil Jones and Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson, costing £30 million.
I think the idea is to buy English, because then the other English talent is more likely to want to join once they see what kind of project you're building. Whereas picking players from all over the place means they might be less likely to join a 'foreign' team. I'll take that Mail exclusive with a pinch of salt for now, but would love it to come off. £30m for a pair that'll probably be worth that much each in 5 years' time.
I admit I often favour home grown players. I just think they have an extra understand and connection. Think of all those young English men and boys dreaming of lifting the Premier League trophy. It will also mean they will hopefully settle in quicker and avoid language barrier issues. I think Liverpool have a great selection of foreigners with Reina, Agger, Lucas, Kuyt, Suarez, Skrtel and Meireles though. A nice balance is needed. I am generally happy with all the names we have been heavily linked wit so far.
i cant remember the year KPR will no doubt dig it out for us but liverpool had no english players in the majority of games that season ,they were scots, irish, welsh, and a great dane
Try 1986 - the double season I think the only Englishman to even feature in the squad was Steve McMahon (he was the sub in the FA Cup final but wasn't used)
I think it important to have players from the Britain, as they know more about the club and it's fans, and are more likely to be loyal and comitted to the cause. I also include Irish players in that. I'd love to see a mix of the home nations and a bit of flair from a abroad, and I think that's what Kenneth and the gang are striving for.
One advantage with british players is that they are more likely to stick around (even when the going gets tough) Last few years we lost arbeloa, alonso & mascherano as they wanted to play in spain. Torres & Benayoun left as they had no feelings for the club. I would expect players like Hendersen , Jones , Caroll to stay with us for 7-8 years as well as Flanangan , Kelly etc.
Asword. It was 1985-86.Out of the players that played the majority of league games and in the cup fina. The only ''Englishman'' to start was Preston born Mark Lawrenson. However he was classified as being ''Irish''.He was a Republic of Ireland international.Mark Lawrenson is the only player to be managed by both Jack and Bobby Charlton..He was managed by Bobby at Preston and by Jack at the Republic of Ireland.
Cole to leave, fairly reliable http://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/1213493-tottenham-set-to-end-joe-coles-liverpool-fc-nightmare.html
Good. I do feel a bit sorry for the lad. Was expecting big things from him. It will be good to get him off the wage bill.
We're in for Adam Johnson, apparently. It's only Caught Offside but would love it if it were true. Great winger with some nifty skills and is young and English too. http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/0...udacious-move-to-sign-manchester-city-winger/
I would Welcome Adam Johnson. He has the potential to be incredible in a few years. Hes not to different from Downing in my opinion, yet he is younger. Could be a great signing.
