Oh dear - we've arrived at the fire sale melt down stage of a transfer window. Mike Bailey writes a provocative article and almost everybody bites. We knew players would have to leave before we could buy. Olsson has been on the verge of leaving for years now. If he does for £5m and we replace him with Jovic on a free, we have pretty close to like for like and around £5m to spend on other players. The same could be said for Brady and it'd depend on who comes in after he leaves. I'll judge this window when it's over, not when it's one third complete. We need new players who are hungry and put in a performance every week rather than occasionally so I am not averse to change. Panic if you like, but I'll wait and see.

It's starting to resemble the bad old days, when Ashley Ward and Jon Newsome were sold (ushered out of the side door), against their will, they enjoyed their time here, by Chase and his cronies, just to 'balance the books'.
McNally helped put the building blocks in place for a (potentially) mid / lower table PL side.
From the day he left - under mysterious circumstances, those remaining have demolished all the good things he helped put in place <doh> - and they ain't finished yet
That which took 5/6/7 years to achieve has been undone in less than a year and we're now a club in reverse <wah>
<yikes>
You're spot on Cromer and I wonder if there will still be a waiting list for Season Tickets at the end of May???? I doubt it. <doh>
My comment with regard to a spectacular transfer window was meant to imply that we could all be in for a spectacular exit of players. Perhaps we are going to see the youngsters (bar Ja. Murphy & Canos)
be given more of a chance? Forget promotion this year.
I'd be inclined to say for SEVERERAL years!! <yikes>

Sorry, but AN slagging him off in public after the Saints match is a) going to piss TK off and b) alert all and sundry that things are not cool in camp Canary and start a bidding war.
Just because 'rookie' Neil doesn't pick him doesn't make him a bad defender.
We're back to the Chase days, I tell you - and it can only get worse from here :(
<applause>

I should think it´s possible we´ll bring in a couple on loan, but I´m not expecting an extravagant use of the Carrow Road cheque book.
I don't think many are, to be fair, but if Brady and Olsson leave, with Toffolo already committed to Scunny until May, we'd be a bit naked down the left side?
Plus if - if, they were both to leave, that should realise circa £14/15m - and were a large chunk of that not reinvested in like-for-like replacements, I think some of the natives would get a shade restless.
As I said in an earlier comment, it's starting to reek of the Chase era!

Thank you for the voice of reason RBF, I've kept off here because there are posters I don't want to upset. I just find it rather funny to see all the wailing and gnashing of teeth and in particular the reference to McNally's "mysterious" departure. There was no mystery, he was hounded off by idiot fans berating him, many of them were posters on here. In my opinion, that's the reason for our decline in fortune!

Just wondering how many of you had seriously expected us to go out and have a whirlwind January Sales, buying bargain after bargain, and selling off all the unwanted wood. January is traditionally a very slow window for most clubs and we are no exception, when do we ever go and splash out anyway. The fact that we have to sell before we can buy, only makes things even worse, and slows down an already pedestrian procedure. The players that have been mentioned as being possibly sold ( Ruddy, Bassong etc), are almost certainly on too high wages, for the sort of clubs that are likely to be interested in them, to move on, so I see that as very unlikely. Brady certainly is a possible mover, but other than that, unless you believe the Olsson rumour, I can´t see many of the current 1st team squad leaving ( I don´t regard Canos or Lafferty as a 1st team squad member by the way). I should think it´s possible we´ll bring in a couple on loan, but I´m not expecting an extravagant use of the Carrow Road check book.
Therein lies the problem RBF, they're not going to want to take a pay cut, nor uproot their families just so that we can reduce our wage bill, so I don't really see them moving unfortunately.
I agree re both Canos and Lafferty.
As FML said earlier in the thread, where on earth has the parachute payment gone, as well as the sale of Redmond, other than buying Pritchard and he has only shown what he can do ocasionally.

And if we kept the same squad we have now how would everybody feel about that? My how attitudes change in a matter of weeks.
I've been saying for a while now, that I'd be quite happy for Brady to be sold for around £10M and I'd also be pleased if we could offload Bassong, Whittaker and Turner, but don't envisage that they'll want to leave.
I'd rather Olsson stayed, but if we believe the rumours, it looks like he'll be off to Swansea in the next few days.

Edit -
The players that need to go aren't Olsson, Jacob, Brady, Klose.
AND there should be plenty of money to add to the squad anyway!!
Agreed

As long as we get a reasonable replacement of a similar calibre, I wouldn't worry overly about Olsson leaving for £5m. Apparently it's not Archant's Bailey who is speculating about players leaving, but this one: "Graeme Bailey has earmarked John Ruddy, Steven Naismith and Sebastien Bassong as players Norwich would like to offload." And just what has led to this journo's 'earmarking'? It wouldn't be an editor's deadline would it? You couldn't just make it up, could you?

Sorry Rick, but you surely remember (28 ? goal) Chris Sutton to Blackburn for £5m - Mike Sheron for 500k as a "replacement"? <doh>
And Ruel Fox to Newcastle, £2.5m, with Neil Adams from Oldham (250k) to 'replace' him.
We dealt in 10%s back then, what makes you think we won't again?
Any decent left backs out there for 500k? No, I thought not :(

To be fair he had a point, and I wouldn't really say slagged him off but maybe could have said privately. I don't know why AN didn't start him more often, but we don't get to see what happens behind closed doors.

Doesn't look good with all these players rumoured to be going, but under 3 different managers these players keep under performing so maybe a clear out isn't so bad. This season feels like it's over already, so maybe start some youth players.

If or when Brady does go Jarvis is on the verge of returning and be the natural replacement imo.

Cutting cost for a long term Championship stay....Brilliant!!
