People bought single tickets on a regular basis , season after season , for a reason Jager , they didn't have the time to go to all the games or couldn't afford to or whatever That's a fact & promotion isn't going to change that . The money that could not be used from holding back more 4,000 tickets means little to where the team finds itself . The team would have got more money back in the long run & had many , many long time supporters selling more single tickets . 12,000 season tickets .. 5,000 non season tickets .... 1,000 to schools , it's a celebration !!
With respects breezy it's a business first and foremost! A business that must make money, giving 1000k tickets to schools is just never going to happen, and in fact the swans had some great offers last season for schools and I took my daughter to a few games, guess she's a plastic now because she is now a season ticket holder ! Holding back tickets would mean people criticising the club for doing that, and having about £600k-£700k less money to do things to help us on the start of the season, really the club can't win! Having upwards of a third of the stadium on match day tickets is just stupid and not sound business sense if the demand is there
You are never going to please everyone, there are arguments for both sides on what the club should have done over selling seats for games next season. Personally I thought the early bird £250 season ticket offer was an absolute bargain even for those on a limited income as there were installment payment deals available. Of course we were not guaranteed premier league football at that stage so those who did take up the offer were prepared to back the team even if it meant another season in the championship. Once the blocks of seats were sold the club then went on to offer similar deals at £275 and then £300 which were again still really good deals. At the same time of course there were still seats available for anyone to purchase in other areas of the stadium as well as the discounted prices for current season ticket holders to renew their seats. Those who regularly attended last season on a match by match basis and didn't realise that there would be a huge increase in demand are the ones who are now unfortunately likely to miss out. All I can say is that the club did their best to encourage these non season ticket holding regulars to commit with the offers I've mentioned and so I don't think they could have done much more. It didn't surprise me that there would be a mad rush for new season ticket applications once we got promoted but the way the club decided to sell them on a first come first come basis which caused the ticket office major problems should have been better thought out. A fairer system would have been fans who had purchased home tickets throughout the season should have had priority, there is a data base that could have helped to differentiate between the regulars and the casuals. Maybe the club could have kept back more seats for match day sale but that could have led to long queues every other week, there will be enough problems sorting out who gets the couple of thousand that will be available. And as for away match ticket sales....
Selling the 4,000 extra set of singles would make enough in the long run to pay for the school tickets , that's good business . Having to have quick cash is a poor excuse now that were here Jager , we could get money to " Keep us afloat " from anywhere . When your selling that many single tickets year after year while there are still empty seats , those people should be looked after when the times get better . I just feel bad in general over this whole thing , it just feels wrong amongst so many things that are right . Done .
You are still ignoring the fact many people who bought individual tickets are now season ticket holders so a moot point, the existing season ticket holders had some very good offers to renew, and we have a stadium of 20k breezy giving away tickets to schools is never going to happen, how can they give away tickets now ? Last season they had lots of offers like 3 kids go free and adults pay £10, and still couldn't sell an allocation with a 15.5k average, now you expect the club to give away tickets, it would be grossly negligent IMO and something as a trust member therefore a part of 20% ownership I would vote against. Yes kids are the future of all clubs, it doesn't mean you give tickets away for practically nothing
Sorry boys, didn't mean to start you off like this ! Bottom line is - if the season tickets went to only Swansea City "fans or fanatics", they would have not sold out this year anyhow. However, there have been thousands of Swansea "supporters" over the years that have fallen in and out of love with going week in week out, through getting a family/money issues/ filling Doug Sharp's & Petty's coffers/location/work reasons etc. If they now go back and decide to guarantee Swansea money next year from buying a seat then happy days. The new generation of Swans fans will only grow and multiply from this. If a fan has lost out to a prodigal son/daughter then so be it (as unfortunate as it is for that fan) The "plastics" as I see them are the corporates and wannabees that have obviously taken advantage of the glory years in order to curry favour/impress whoever they wish or watch the other Premier teams rather than support the Swans. Lets face it... a season ticket is cheaper than buying Sky Sports. For every one of them I will see or not see (due to an empty seat as the clients did not fancy a mid week game, or because a BIG club didn't turn up) I will shed a tear for those true supporters and fanatics at home unable to make it through whatever reason they may have had. Just my opinion tho!
Afternoon chaps read the whole article with a lot of interest due to the position I am in, I work away and make on average about 5-6 homes games a season during my holidays and christmas so was not in an position to buy a season ticket could of as I was asked by a family member who queued from 8pm on the Thursday till The Friday afternoon if I wanted one as he could purchase a maximum of 4 . I am lucky enough to be working near London so will get most of these games this year. The club from what I can gather can sell your seat if you notify them that your seat will not be used for any game, not sure how many people will do that so there is a system in place for this but I would prefer the smaller clubs as then I think there be a better atmosphere like the forest play off and leeds game in league 1,
Liberty that's a well thought out post, and your reasonableness is there for all to see, well said mate, couldn't have put it better myself, agree completely! swimaway fair comment there to mate...................
