According to the BBC website, Derby's Frankie Fielding has been called up in place of Robert Green. That makes the 3 England goalies: Joe Hart (MC - PL), David Stockdale (IT - CH) and Frankie Fielding (DC - CH). According to Wikipedia, John Ruddy is eligible to play for England. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks John Ruddy should get in ahead of 7-Goal-Stockdale? Even as 3rd choice! Or have I completely got it wrong, and Ruddy has stated he doesn't want to play? Or maybe Capello isn't aware of Norfolk, and therefore any English Norwich player? I'd be interested for your views on this, I used to be a season ticket holder in the Jarrold at CR before I moved to Tottenham for Uni.

Stockdale is a loan, so really he's a Premiership keeper. Expect he has played a few Premiership games for Fulham.

Fielding is the first choice U21 keeper and Stockdale is on loan.

Based on current form Ruddy should be up there, based on playing for Norwich, he won't get noticed at all. Look at Green, didn't get sniff when he was with us apart from half a friendly against Colombia, moved to West Ham and was a squad regular almost immediately

Same could be said for Forster, but he is playing north of the border and so hasn't/won't be noticed. Expect the same may happen for Joe Cole now he's in France.

Even still, Capello said he picks on form, and 7 goals conceded and playing in the Championship isn't as good as Ruddy atm.

I know about Fielding, I watched the Euro U21 tournament, and yes he was very impressive, but the same argument about Championship or Premier League is valid.

Man Utd - De Gea (Spain)
    Man City - Given (England)
    Chelsea- Cech (Czech rep.)
    Arsenal - Szczęsny (Poland)
    Liverpool- Reina (Spain)
    Spurs - Friedal (USA)
    Everton - Howard (USA)
    A. Villa - Given (R of I)
    Sunderland- Mignolet (Belgium)
    Wolves - Hennessey (Wales)
    Newcastle - Krul (Holland)
    Fulham -Schwarzer (Australia)
    Stoke -Begovic (Bosnia)
    W. Brom- Foster (England but won't play)
    Wigan - Al Habsi (Oman)
    Blackburn-Robinson (England but retired!)
    Bolton-Jaaskelainen(Finland)
    QPR-Kenny (R of Ireland)
    Swansea-Vorm (Holland)
    Norwich- Ruddy (ENGLAND!)

So that makes a grand total of 2 English keepers that are prepared to play for England who play in the premier league!

But our favourite paper seems to think it has been decided that Ruddy isn't up to international standard:

I was looking at Man City, where you had him as England!

I see now, you meant Hart. <ok>

this may not go down too well, but i shall defend the ipswich keeper. by all accounts, despite the heavy defeats he has been BY A COUNTRY MILE so far their best player! tells you everything you need to know about how poor ipswich are but he is a very talented keeper. i'd say he is probably equal footing with ruddy but remember he plays for fulham in the capital and therefore gets the nod in my opinion, simply cos he'll get watched more often. the gk situation with england is frankly embarrassing at the moment. even though he clearly doesn't want to return, i wouldn't want ben foster anywhere near the squad - he's a liability. ruddy will surely get a call up before the end of the season. to rate him below frankie fielding on the evidence i've seen is frankly ludicrous. fielding is terribly weak.

Wow! wasnt till I read this that I realised how poor the keeper situation was in England... we always used to have a steady stream of world class keepers until recent years... what happened??? Good though that Norwich at least are keeping up their tradition of developing great keepers and I do believe Ruddy will develop into another of those, I'm getting increasingly confidant in him, his performances seem to just keep getting better & better.

Hart should always be first choice hands down, but picking a goalkeeper thats conceded 14 goals in 5 games is crazy, has Capello been venturing down Coldharbour Lane to buy some crack recently?

Ruddy deserves a chance plus he can save penalties which is one factor which meets the criteria for England goalkeepers if you ask me.

  19. Hopefully Ruddy will realise the situation which can only serve to further improve his game. If he can stay on form, there's a chance he could be considered.

They took Joe Lewis with the squad at one stage, Ruddy is better.
