Let's stop pretending. Any `Second World' country we have a wee War with is a joke. They are ****ing pish at being Armies, just look at Lybia, guys with ****in' pickup trucks and AK47s, with no brains, have beat Gadaffi's `Elite troops'. Give me a ****in' break. A division of the Girl Guides could conquer half of Africa in a month. Iraq? The Falklands? Don't make me laugh.
Lets say nothing about the pounding the Gadaffi forces have recieved from the air. The rebellion would have been snuffed out within a week if it werent for the ridiculous international intervention
Erm... Does the History Channel count? Are you taking about Vietnam and Afghanistan? Guerrilla warfae, bit of a pain in the arse. Falklands - The Argies were pish - apart from having the `Exocet'. Iraq - Pish republican guard.
A lot of it comes down to technology. It's all well and good having a Republican guard but they're mostly there for show. They're not a lot of use against missiles being carpeted upon you from ships in the Gulf 150 miles away and from planes two miles above the city.
Not really no. I'm not sure if you were wumming or not but the term "Elite" is often overused by tinpot armies, a perfect example being the "Elite" Republican Guard. They were well equipped but poorly trained and led, however in a purely defensive strategy, war is a bit like football when a team plays 10 men at the back, very difficult to break down by even the best sides.
The majority of people think the USA beat Hitler. 75% of Germany's entire military force were fighting the Russians full time during that conflict. America only dropped the atomic bombs on Japan to force the Russian's into stopping their advances.
If you watch the paralympics some of those competitors have rubbish armies, but quite a few also have rubbish leggies.
You should read a book called `Ivan's War' http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ivans-War-Army-1939-45-Inside/dp/0571218091 It's unbelievable. Russians were killed on an industrial scale. Also, real battles? The Battle of Kursk is hard to beat for shear scale and deaths. Don't EVER **** with the Russians.
So you of course in your typical arrogance assume to know more about the history than the documentary makers who you do not have a clue about in the slightest.
