So how does Hart get picked before Fryatt? I don't think Hart's ever scored a goal in his life. I suppose Fryatt's not saved many shots either. Maybe Roy should toss a coin to decide!?
I think it's more about what they've grown up with and naturally therefore, being more comfortable with the relevant positioning and responsibility. They can both play in a 3 effectively but because they are more comfortable in a 4, they will presumably play better individually and possibly as a unit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate of either system particularly, I think both have merits but we have also lost games playing both systems, although in either case that isn't necessarily down to the system.
Davies was interviewed on Talksport this morning and he had a tiny dig at Keane, saying he wouldn't choose Ireland as he's not good enough for Keane.
Full interview: http://talksport.com/football/exclu...-his-england-world-cup-dream-over-14031082882 The Ireland comment is around 3:30. The only thing that really annoys me is Colin ****er thinks we still play at Boothferry ffs! Him saying he wanted Sheff Utd to win doesn't bother me, he's one of them tbf.
I can understand Roy's reasoning to some extent but still feel Davies would improve the squad and Keane is a tw*t. The World Cup squad has a max of 23, of which 3 must be keepers. That leaves 20 players for the other 10 positions, or 2 each - and that's if you intend to play the same formation every game with 2 players pencilled in per spot. If you plan to change formations through the tournament you need some players who're versatile and can perform well in different roles (the Milner effect). Outside Terry, who's not going anyway, Cahill and Jagielka are the top two English centre backs and will start if fit. They're having good seasons, have international experience and have established a pairing together already. After them you need 2 more who likely won't start unless one of those two picks up an injury or suspension. Roy will probably take Smalling and Jones because: A) They've played for England before. B) They play for Man Utd. C) They are seen as being versatile and covering other positions as well as centre back (Smalling plays RB a lot, Jones plays RB or defensive midfield). Point C I can understand to a degree, as Davies does only play games at centre back, but I'd argue Smalling has been fairly rubbish most times he's played as a right back and only does so for Man Utd because they were daft and only had Rafael who is both inconsistent and often injured. They've had no choice this season. Smalling I see as a centre back only, and one who's been error-prone this season. Jones I agree more with the flexibility reasoning, and think he alone is sufficient to fulfill this criteria. As for previous England experience, sure, Davies could in theory put the shirt on and get wobbly knees, but players who've been in the squad before can buckle under pressure/nerves just the same. At this stage in Davies' career that pressure might simply make him perform even better - he has shone in our bigger games. If you take Jones for his flexibility you have one spot left to fill, and Woy has opted for Smalling with Caulker called up to the preliminary squad as the next in line. I can see the reasoning with Caulker being younger but the priority right now has to be this world cup, and this season Davies has been more consistent than Caulker. Davies might not be the best centre back in the world, or be on anyone's list for a World XI, but neither are Cahill or Jagielka - they're simply decent without being world class. In terms of being in the squad as 4th centre back he's more deserving this season than Smalling or Caulker. He's been solid, dependable and consistent with very, very few mistakes all season. He's led a newly promoted back line to being one of the better defences in the league. I'd go with these 4 for the squad: Cahill Jagielka Jones (for his versatility) Davies And then Caulker, Dawson and Smalling behind those in case of any injuries before the final squad is announced. Maybe even Lescott ahead of Smalling. Edit: Williamson at Newcastle might even be more deserving. Whatever we think, though, Woy has already made his mind up. Davies (and Caulker) should've been included in earlier friendlies to see how they did, and give him options, but he stuck with the likes of Smalling and now has no opportunity to see anyone else in an England shirt before it's time to name the squad. He'll have to go with the squad he probably wrote down months ago.
Stick this up your jacksy, Keane: Curtis Davies - Hull City: Were there more friendlies to impress ahead of this summer's tournament, another player that might fancy their chances of winning a place on the plane to Brazil would be Davies. He was once again outstanding in Hull's FA Cup quarter-final win over Sunderland, scoring the crucial opening goal. http://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/9206572/-?
I can believe Keane made this comment, he's the football version of that Katie Hopkins monstrosity- failed manager so has to come out with this kind of stuff to keep his media profile up. Also Robbie Fowler made some sort of comment on Twitter about the protests that seemed a bit ignorant too, not seen it flagged up by anybody
Robbie Fowler ‏@Robbie9Fowler 21h Any hull fans still boycotting games or canceling season tickets... The ****'s he on about? Who's said they're boycotting or cancelling season tickets? The CTWD stance, which seems to have been carried out by the vast majority, was to ignore Allam's request that we cancel our season tickets. Seems like he's just attacked the standard fan protest stance without actually checking whether we're doing it Obviously some would stop going if we did change to Hull Tigers, but that clearly isn't dependant on success.
****ing hell! Even Adrian Durham thinks Curtis should be in the England squad ahead of Caulker! Just said it on talksport, theres a poll on the website about it. Theres one for the better celebration, Eto'o or Meyler...
Roy Keane is clueless. Just says things to gain attention. If CD was available for the ROI CD would be a shoe in to start games. After Gary Cahill, Curtis Davies is the next best (on current form) that England have. End of.
Are you for real?? Thudd shouldn't be in the England team,he isn't consistent enough and doesn't do enough for me although he has the ability to be in it.
