I see Germany, Portugal, Spain in the semis. If we deal with the Italians, I think we could cope with Germany. IMO Spain is one team whose style of play does not suit us but we'll only meet in the Final so that's not too bad ...
Wasn't that down to his own manager saying he couldn't cope with tournament football though? So should Roy just have ignored his own manager and how insight in to his own player then?

I didn't want Hodgson of Kenny as our manager, and was dismayed when they were the only ones linked with us after Rafa went. Roy is a much better IInternational COach than he is a club manager.
I would not be dropping Rooney though, I think He was a bit Rusty against the Ukraine, but he got the goal and will be better against the Azzuri after getting a game under his belt.
I think Germany are the ones to be worried about, I think We could handle Spain, as I think we would be able to restrict them to short passes round the outside of our 18 yrd box and frustrate them, and I think we have pace in the side to get round the back of them a bit. The Germans look unstoppable to me.
I think Roy should have th bottle to drop Young (Not for Downing though, before anyone starts), I'd Play Rooney and Carrol up front. I would had rather he took Sturridge than Wellbeck, as I think he's more of a threat.

Since when did international managers listen to club managers as far as internationals are concerned? Wenger and Ferguson constantly whinge about their players being unfit. But they get ignored by the intenational managers because you always suspect that the club managers have no reason to help these national teams and have some other agenda like keeping the fitness of their players as long as possible for the benefit of the club. Do you think Ferguson will go out of his way to help England? Did he try for example to persuade Scholes to carry on playing for England even though he was clearly able to a few years back? No chance.
In any case: Hodgson has never doubted the fitness of Ferdinand and has not even hinted at that. He said that ferdinand was too good to be used as a sub.
Just a few observations
- roy is a pretty humble guy, to use what he said re defeat at everton etc is no different to what most managers say including kenny after losing. difference being roy is honest. same with what he said about UTD imo. Poeple who have antagonised SAF have gone onto lose in th elong run who know roys 'nice' approach may have worked
- roy is the bigger man for including the LFC players and making the likes of gerrard captain, despit the lack off support from him at LFC
- rooney isnt rusty, he has been like this all season for us too. rubbish performances but pops up with a goal. cannot afford to waste the chances he did/does against the likes of italy
- carroll shouldnt be there imo should have been crouch, but now he is why did milner and young put crosses in from the wing before carrol came on, to sail over rooneys head (or him to miss) yet carroll comes on and its all long balls from the defence with his back to goal?
- international v club football is not a good way to judge a manager. At club level you get to choose players at international level you get to pick players. You could make pep manager of say Ireland (with all due respect to the Irish) and he still isnt going to win anything isgnificant with players at his disposal
- england done well to get to this stage, but its time for the curtain to fall on this venture and build for the WC

Welbeck is 10 times the player Carroll is. Carroll is lucky to even be in the squad going on his form from last season.
Last season's form means nothing now.
It is all about the balance of the squad and what each player can add to that squad.
If you were England manager I am guessing the starting line-up would have players like Holt and Osman in it...yet the team have done pretty well so far with players who you would not have taken because of last season's form, i.e. Carroll.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your view, I'm never going to agree with you though. Carroll was getting better every time he played, and was absolutley awesome his last 6 games, deserves his place for me.

Okay mate, I have no problem with you having that opinion, I just don't see why you feel the need to bash Carroll as not worthy of being in the squad. Especially when you consider that he has played a very important part in England reaching the last eight, as I said earlier, you wouldn't have took him. Would England have beaten Sweden without him? Nobody knows, but what we do know is that he scored in that game and he was important, yet you would have Grant Holt in his place...
So you're saying they'd play better as under a different manager?, All out attacking football in the three group games would have ended in them being knocked out.
If its the players he chose for the squad that your gripe is about that's a different matter but for all you know he might realise his tactics need changing in the Italy game and play more attacking football instead of a chess like stalemate settled by pens.

Other than Rio for Terry I have no problems with the squad he picked.
Considering the (lack of) proven quality in the side I think Roy was the right choice for this tournament.

I agree with you mate,but the world cup qualifiers start not long from now and there's no way Brooking and his FA cronies will sack Hodgson for a younger man after getting this far(or even further)in the Euro Championship.
They like a yes man and as proved with the Rio/Terry case they've found one, so dont hold your breath.
Putting club rivalry aside, there is no way that Terry is captain by name. Thank goodness for that!!! If he were we would have all sorts of divisions and strife. We must admit that Gerrard (despite being a scouser) has been a good captain and been the best player for England so far.
