It's surprising how team-rivalry (hatred) has eclipsed supporting your country. Hodgson would be a better choice than Arry. He has international experience and can build a team. All Arry can do is buy a team and go bankrupt.
I think Hodgson is a good choice. The only thing is that he seems to be a good man and doesn't deserve all the abuse he is going to get as England coach. I hope everyone stays off his back, but I know that will not be the case.
I can see the fans and media are gutted that darling Harry was ignored . If i were roy, i'd refuse to take the job, it's better to stay at West Brom and keep doing a solid job, the media will leave you alone that way.
At Roy's age, this could be the crowning achievement of a VERY long career, he won't turn it down. I just hope everyone defends him against the media fools who will try to tear him down.
Whether the media like it or not I think it's the correct decision....or maybe it's BECAUSE the media dont like it...hmmm. . At any rate I don't care about any country in any sport arsenal is all that matters to me!
Kyle, it's obvious who is going to the black country, GUARDIOLA, think about it, no-one could understand why he left Barcelona, he must have had inside info from the FA. It's a perfect match neither of them can speak English. He'll be boing boinging up the M6 any day now.!
Hodgson is a terrible choice, take it from someone who had to endure the style of football he forces on his players for over half a year. He will have Heskey starting our matches. Oh well, the media will shred him as they do all our managers when England get dumped out early on
Unrelated, but I always thought it was madness to give Ramsey that responsibility. I can't see that it helped him regain confidence, more likely it has just added to the pressure.
Feel for the guy. He is a nice guy, a true gentleman. He is going to wish he was never born after the abuse he gets in the rags and by England supporters.....
That being the case he should turn down the offer, although his ego won't let him as he thinks he's a world class manager (his words) so has what it takes to get England firing. Deserves all the **** he will get
So if he believes in himself he deserve the abuse? He doesn't come across as being arrogant or anything. I think he shouldn't take it personally as he's good but not really top class. Capelo couldn't do anything with this England team and he's got an excellent club record. I can understand him taking it as it's an honour and any true Englishman would take it.
I don't have a link to every one of his after match interviews! it was a justification for a dire display and he said that it wasn't a problem with his tactics and he had managed some great teams so couldn't be his fault and so would never change his tactics It was the arrogance, not the belief in himself. And like you I was shocked as he came across as humble when he is actually a very stubborn and egotistical man. When Rafa was sacked, we wished him all the best as we will do with Kenny if he goes in the summer, but Roy never puts his club first and it's all about him, he can do no wrong. Seriously. He will NEVER take the blame to the point that he will blame youngsters for defeats if he has to (as he did for us when he blamed our youngster Pacheco for a defeat that was his doing). This doesn't even go into the fact that the way he plays, results aside, is so ugly its beyond belief. We lose with Dalglish, sure, but at lease it's easy on the eyes!
I haven't really followed him extensively when he was manager of Liverpool, so you'll have a better idea. I think it's more of a safe signing than of ambition from the FA.
I think given Harry's natural cheerfulness and having shown a nous for putting together good teams with attacking flair and getting teh best out of players, he would have been a good choice as steward during Euro 2012. He would have got the players relaxed and would have had a happy camp, which seems key to getting our lads playing well. After that, the FA coiuld have seen how it went. With Roy, I think the likelihood is the mood in the camp will be dour, deadly serious, and teh players will not feel inspired, and teh football will be sterile, nervous. They should have gone for Harry just for Euro 2012, and then taken teh long term decision after the tournament, which is always the obvious time to take stock. If they appoint Roy as their long term man, and we are a shambles, they will have to shell out money to get rid of him and start he saga of the search again. Also, around teh summer is probably a good time to be looking as there are likely more candidates available. Maybe even Pep would have discovered that these "other things in life apart from football" are not quite the sanctuary he thought they were and would yearn for a return to the bedlam.
The difference with Hodgson is that he has actually managed international teams before. He managed Finland and nearly took them to the Euros for the first time, so just in that respect he's a far better, more experienced candidate than Harry who can't 'wheel and deal' with a national team. Personally, I'd really like Hodgson to get it. It would be great for the country to fully get behind an ENGLISH manager, it helps that Roy is so likeable too. I'd just hate for it to all backfire on him and ruin his career after he's done so well to pick it back up again.
