On tonights show.... Marcus Stewart! The questions should be interesting seeing that he played for both Bristol clubs. I have a question lined up but I wont be able to listen to the show.
Was a good listen. 2 of my 3 questions got asked 1: How does Stewart feel about not being given a chance to play for England after being the top English Prem goal scorer in 2000/01 season? 2: How involved is Stewart within training, trying to rectify our lack of goals? His answers were... 1: He scored a hattrick vs Southampton while Englands assistant manager (Tord Grip) was actually watching. Few days later the England squad was announced. He knew if he didnt make that squad, he was never going to make it. However he has not regrets with his career or not playing for England. 2: He is involved with set piece training and attacking play like getting the full back forward and into the box at the back post etc.... but technique wise, its hard to re-create that match day pressure. Shooting practise often creates bad habits as you can over complicate things. He helps breaking it down and working on certain things. But actually shooting practise is is easy to hit the ball in the net but teaching the players to stay cool is impossible. Enjoyed listening to the rest of the questions too
To me came he across as quite dull last night seemed to lack a personality and not much of a sense of humour also seemed to have very poor memory of games he played in Anyway I can remember when we played the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs at Lodge Road, Yate over 2,000 there for those games. We were in the Reserve League (I think it was called the Avon Combination League) with the Premiership clubs who played in the south I had my Gary Mabbutt book signed by the man himself also I recall Ossie Ardiles being at the same game. Some great nights at Yate back in the day.
I just checked gas guzzler and gas chat and neither has mentioned last nights show at all. To me what Stewart had to say has got relevent talking points that can be discussed on those forums.
I believed JTS and still do with the consortium. Not sure whats going on with it but I do believe something was going on
I listened to it and when they asked what was the best Rovers goal he scored i thought of a cracker away at York. I had it taped on an old Betamax video. I smiled when he said York and then he said it was home. I would swear it was away. Anyway i did enjoy it and i would rate him up with Barry Hales as one of the best Rovers Players i have seen.
