Routledge will enter a ninth season at the Liberty after penning a new deal which runs until June 2020. The winger had briefly left the club after his previous contract expired but will remain in SA1 for another 12 months following successful talks with chairman Trevor Birth. Routledge made 26 appearances this season, scoring five goals, as the Swans missed out on a Championship play-off spot despite a strong finish to the campaign. The 34-year-old provided invaluable experience to a youthful Swans side which included many players who had progressed from the club’s academy. Since joining the Swans from Newcastle United in August 2011, Routledge has made 260 appearances and scored 27 goals. On top of being a key figure in the club’s seven-year spell in the Premier League, he was instrumental in the Swans’ League Cup success in 2013 and the resulting Europa League. Happy with that!!
Great news for me, I am sure he will be a big contributor to our season and gives us much needed experience.
