Wayne Routledge is aiming for the tonic of a morale boosting second Championship winners' medal with QPR after being shown the door by Alan Pardew at Newcastle.

Pardew wasted no time in dispatching the diminutive winger to the second tier of the English game upon taking the reins at St James' Park in December.

Yet, Routledge has found solace with Neil Warnock's league leaders where he has been given a platform to display his talents.

"The new manager came in and made it clear I was not part of his plans. I was fine being at Newcastle and I was involved in the team, although not as much as I would have liked, but I was enjoying it," the 26-year-old told skysports.com.

"But when it was made clear to me that I wouldn't be involved much, than I made a decision to come somewhere where I could play football.

"That's all I want to do is play and enjoy the game. Coming here has given a chance to do that."

The former England Under-21 international won the Championship title last year with Newcastle and earned promotion earlier in his career with Crystal Palace.

"I know what it takes to win this league," he added. "It's a nice honour to have two promotions in two seasons, but for me it's about settling down and I thought that I had done that at Newcastle.

"I'm still a Newcastle player. I fully enjoyed my time at Newcastle and intend on going back there but every manager has own opinion on players and the game."

We could do with him back IMO, good cover and low wages. Would you keep him next season?

I was just about to do a post about how anonymous he had been today. Seems like he is ok against lesser championship sides but as soon as he comes up against half decent defenders he disappears. Maybe ok as a squad member i suppose.

Yes! It's a different dimension. We loaned him just as he was beginning to get into it (Man City at home, anyone?). If it's not working for one of our winger (e.g. Jonas yesterday - and most days in all honesty) then it's great just to put him on and see whether he can use his pace against a tiring FB.

He's too mentally fragile to be a decent EPL player. Simple as that. The guy is naturally low in confidence and instantly feels sorry for himself as soon as the going gets tough.

We don't need players who have to be looked after and constantly wrapped in bubble wrap.

Excellent ''impact'' sub in my opinion, but don't really rate him as a regular Premier League quality winger, he's very inconsistent, lacks strength, height, his passing is very average and his end product in the Premier League is very poor, although he has good skill and awesome pace, he just isn't good enough(from what I've seen) to be a Premier regular, just ask Fulham, Spurs, Palace(got relegated with them) and Alan Pardew.. top class Championship player though!

If we get Marveaux in summer (or any winger tbh) I cant see him getting many games, maybe he is better off at QPR where he is one of the better players. Great impact sub, but no player in the peak of his career should be happy as an impact sub so he'll probably be gone by next January if he does stay for the start of next season (depending on the signings).

Mavereaux (sp) is primarily a left winger i think, but i'd like to see a left and a right winger come into the club (as i see ben arfa in a no.10 role)

The description you gave about Routledge is exactly the same description i'd give for jonas mate. The only reason i'd keep Jonas in the starting 11 is that we have no other LW options apart from Ferguson, and he's not ready yet.
Routledge deserves more of a chance in my opinion. He beats players and has good ball control, and some of his crosses are decent. He's basically the same as Jonas.

I wasn't talking about the height, and anyone with common sense would know that i was talking about the footballing aspects in the description and the more important factors.
His connection with Jonas has it's advantages, but to be quite honest it's ****ing predictable. It's no where near as exciting as it used to be, and any quality left mid could link up with Enrique if given the time to adapt.

As i said, i'd keep him in the starting 11 for now, and i wouldn't mind keeping him to keep the depth in midfield high. The squad is paper thin atm, and we cannot afford to lose players unless we are sure to bring in better replacements.

If you watch the games when Ben Arfa played LW, he offered Enrique no defensive support and wasnt interested in tracking back, as you say they or anyone else could adapt but when you have a good partnership, it doesnt mean that any other player will work as well with one of them. Sometimes two things together are greater than the sum of their parts.

I agree 100% with this. Gutierrez is useless. If he gets a chance he balloons it over. If he puts in a cross it trickles along the floor. I could make a good partnership with Jose he's that good. The fact of the matter is a winger should be able to cross and/or shoot, the things that Jonas does should be a bonus. Not the other way around

Ben Arfa tracked back and had very good work rate defensively actually. They showcased this on match of the day as it wasn't what anybody expected.

Probably just trying to keep the fans with him rather than upsetting us by saying he was unhappy etc. I don't really like or dislike Routledge although I feel he has or has had masses of potential to become a great winger. Potential, in my opinion, that he has failed to utilise on numerous occassions with a host of clubs in the EPL!
