Rotherham United have built a bit of a buffer between themselves and the relegation zone in recent weeks, heading into Tuesday night’s game with eight points separating themselves and Blackpool.

Following the departure of Paul Warne early in the season, Matt Taylor arrived from Exeter City, and he has overseen some impressive performances since taking charge – notably an away victory at high-flying Sheffield United and a 4-0 demolition of Blackburn Rovers.

Taylor is looking to do something which no Millers manager has since the 2015/16 campaign by retaining the club’s place in the Championship, having been relegated in their previous three seasons in the second tier, and former PNE men Jordan Hugill and Bailey Wright have been drafted in to help them do so.

    Going Head To Head

    Games played: 61
    PNE wins: 16
    Draws: 23
    Rotherham United wins: 22
Last PNE victory: Rotherham United 1-3 PNE, 5th November 2016

Arguably one of the division’s best goalkeepers so far this season, Viktor Johansson has been crucial to the Millers this term.

The 24-year-old comfortably leads the way for saves made this Championship campaign and, with a different man between the sticks, Rotherham could have found themselves in far greater danger than what they are.

Johansson has had to fight for his place in the past, too, having spent a lot of last season on the bench, but he’s been an ever-present so far this term.

Experienced official Stephen Martin will referee Tuesday night’s game, which will be his second PNE fixture of the season.

The previous was a day to forget for North End, losing 4-0 on home turf to Norwich City, while the last victory when Martin was in charge was back in 2020 when the Lilywhites defeated Birmingham City at Deepdale.

So far this campaign, Martin has refereed 15 matches, showing 59 yellow cards and two reds.

    MACS VIEW

Difficult fixture at relegation strugglers should have actually hammered them at Deepdale will be a far more difficult prospect in Yorkshire, they have won the last couple of games and have a decent gap between them and the bottom three, personally rate their manager did a great job at Exeter City

    Macs View

Thoroughly deserved win only disappointment failed to score more which made the last 20 minutes harder than they should have been, They started well with Ogbene running amok on the left wing strangely he was moved in field and they were never the same afterwards. We had plenty of joy down the flanks first goal came from that source long ball to the back post, Brady nods the ball across goal and Cannon steals in to put the ball awy.
Total control until some poor defending let them back in fom a corner. Hugill had headed over shortly before this in their best period of the half
Cannon goal disallowed for offside putting a rebound in from the keeper.
Suspect Taylor would have been happy level at half time didn't get there level Evans spin, turn left foot shot far corner exquisite.
Should have put the game to bed Cannon hit the bar, Evans shot defelected narrowly wide, Bambo took out his pitching wedge five yards out over the top, could have come to regret those chances as e got deeper and deeper, but for all their possession the Millers created all of sod.

    MANAGERS

    Preston manager Ryan Lowe:

"The focus is the next game, we have got a small points target from now until the Middlesbrough game, we are going about it in a nice way. I'm not going to get too carried away as much as I would love to.

"This league is crazy, Blackpool won 6-1 tonight, so that's what the league is.

"I am not going to get too carried away, we are going to try and keep climbing up as much as we can and collecting points and if we feel like we have got any chance after that we will sit down and have a discussion amongst ourselves and see where it takes us.

"We just want to keep working hard and picking up points and see where it takes us."

    Rotherham boss Boss Matt Taylor:

"We just weren't there with the intent to start the game. The goals are a frustrating aspect and shows a little bit of weakness through the spine of the team.

"We were overrun in certain parts. It comes down to quality and execution, something we have been short in for too long I am afraid.

"I am always honest, maybe too honest at times in terms of how I talk. I thought a few were a little bit flat tonight in terms of being scolded from the weekend, were a little bit low on the back of their performance or how the game panned out at the weekend."
