Good to see targets are identified and we are engaging early. I admit I know zero about this guy, so let’s see
very very very streaky even ...at times! BOUNCING ALONG THE BOTTOM ..... a few times more than in the previous 6 or so years!
Was Civid good or bad for football? did it put the brakes under an out of control financial pending catastrophe or simply screw up a good on going model! One thing for sure whether we should have sacked 3 lots of of coach's because of .. or not .. we seem to finished with someone who is painstakingly slowly getting the ship back to an even keel! Was I happen with the fist 20 month's or so ... NO .. I think NP had issues! but it seems to have calmed down now. EOS is like a birthday .. another year gone! so what does the next bring? To be honest I think we have a pretty good average Championship side ... do we have the players on board now to move us up? ...NO ... do we have the players to put us in with a stroke of luck and top 6 finish that could "luckily be all right on the night"? ... possibly!
Is this guy any good? I know nothing about him. The Aberdeen forum has been dead since 2018 so I don’t know who to ask.
Bristol City closing in on first summer signing as Nigel Pearson's wish starts to be granted Bristol City are keen to bolster their squad in central defence and midfield and former Rangers talent Ross McCrorie can cover both positions https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-closing-first-summer-8379676
It's definitely an area we need numbers, especially as Scott will likely leave, and King will play less. If he can cover as a CB as well, then that helps. Hopefully it saves Cam Pring having to fill in again, and he can focus on the LB position where he has looked so good. Is he good enough to run the midfield for us in a top 6 push next season, who knows, but I have my doubts.
Plays in a Pub league. This guy may be the exception to the rule but I'd like to think we have more ambition. If we're serious about the play offs we need 5 Championship ready players to stand a chance of, realistically, 3 play off places. I'm not convinced by buying a 'jack of all trades' player, the kind Pearson likes. Look at Naismith. I prefer a proper CH or a proper midfielder. Because with Kalas gone sure as hell we need a 'proper' CH next season.
I agree and must admit I've not been as convinced as others regarding Naismith...he has far more mistakes in him than Zak!!
Must say I like Naismith, just not as CH. I'm not convinced of Vyner at all, I'm prepared to give Atkinson a bit more slack (not much) but we definitely need a proper Championship CH next season.
We do need a dominant CB, with leadership qualities to be our captain and take ownership on the pitch, something we really haven't had in my eyes for a few years now. Weimann is not my idea of a club captain tbh, I always like a big dominant CB as the Captain, as they see everything from the back. Then Atkinson and Vyner are competing for the other CB slot, I think both are good Championship defenders who have their pros and cons, and I think both of them would benefit and develop alongside a really decent, experienced CB. Sadly with Kalas injuries, and Bakers retirement, they have been robbed of that development this season.
I think if we bought in a CB playing at the level Zak is now, we’d be delighted. The trouble is many of us judge him on how he used to be.
I think Zak has improved enough for me to be included in the squad going forward, but whether he is up to the task of being a major contributor in a challenge for promotion remains to be seen. Many years have gone by with us saying we need a dominant play maker in midfield to control our game, and yet here we are back at the start again without ever bringing in that type player. Two players that come to mind in the midfield area that were with us for short periods back in the day were Paul Hartley and Clayton Blackmore and both impressed me with their style of play and overall control of the game. I know it was quite some time ago but the memories of those 2 players and their dominance at our level still stick in my mind, and I wonder why we have never been capable of finding any more in that mould? When I lived in Edmonton, Alberta back in the 70's I was a regular at the NASL games played at Commonwealth Stadium and saw many ex-pat players such as Rodney Marsh, Pele, George Best and many others but the standout for me was a player on my home team was a guy named Peter Nogly. He originally played for Hamburg back in Germany and won European honours before coming to Canada and his dedication to his profession was on display in every game, plus his mentoring was invaluable to the younger players throughout the game. That's what we need before we can expect to advance towards the chosen few and unfortunately the lad from Aberdeen might not be up to the task, unless he gets experience and subtlety alongside him.

I wouldn't be happy that my "struggling Championship club", would pay £4m for a player from a club in a pub league.....
I think £2m is overpriced personally, are they aware of COVID?, transfer fees have shrunk dramatically, and rightly so.
