Pity. Probably player of the season so far even though the image has tarnished a bit during January. I wonder if his inability to kick at Accie was down to injury rather than failiure to follow instructions (this is the reason Heesy gave for taking him off).
Anyway every cloud has a silver lining and Gazzaniga has the opportunity to impress in a run of games and we can see whether he is any good or not. Does anyone know if he has learnt any english yet? It was said that he had not got a word when he arrived. Having a rookie goalie makes it much higher risk to introduce any youngsters in the defence during the next month but if Evans or Essam have got good spanish they might get a chance.

I'm glad to see Gazza getting a start. Kicking the ball out will be no problem for him . It looks as though Hess is going to have to look at some of the younger players to inject a bit of hunger anyway. Saturdays game being off was a blessing in disguise and our players should be raring to go

Funny, I've been saying for weeks that Lawrence and Frampton need to be dropped, "but" Southend play a very direct long ball game, just the sort of thing they do well against.
According to the article he's been carrying the injury for some time.
So who is to blame for letting him play on? It could be argued that the decision cost us 3 points against Accrington as his movement was obviously not right, and I reckon that the injury could probably be blamed for at least 2 of the Accrington goals. The first because he threw it out instead of kicking it (as apparently he had been instructed), and either the second or third - the video's not available any longer, but the shot from the left side just outside the box, when he only made the weakest effort to get near the ball.
Of course the nature of the game would have been different if those goals had not been scored, but in retrospect it was a stupid and arguably costly decision to let him play.
