Listening to the 1904 pod we want an appointment in the mould of Rohl/Cifuentes (but not them) That’s one massive gamble, for every Rohl there’s a Shota. I’d much rather a manager with Championship experience
Pretty sure it's Rohl and Still (not necessarily in that order) who we've got earmarked. Wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a reason Acun is at the PSG game..
We'd need to sell before June 31st for it to count this year, which I suspect is unlikely. But we have assets with values which offset the losses, which I guess is the salient point.
Yeah reading between the lines it felt like Still. I know he started well at Reims but it looks like they’ve fallen off pretty sharpish. We’re effectively replacing a promising inexperienced manager with one who’s even more unproven. Does Still even have his badges?
Dunno, but it will piss the mackems off mightily if we land Still. If you're looking for a reason for a drop off, then Still has been angling for a championship move since Sunderland sacked Mowbray and only reason he didn't move then was that Sunderland wouldn't stump up a compo fee. The Reims players obviously would know this. Sunderland will be ****ing livid if we sign him now he's free
That's impressive as there's no date June 31st. It also doesn't particularly matter which of the two years it falls into for the three year cycle as we're not close to the limit in the preceding years.
The handling of Pandur and Sinik were cited as a couple of points of friction. Maybe that extends to Oscar too?
Yes, which is what my second paragraph was addressing. The only reason that date would matter would be if we were close to/over run rate in the preceding two years and therefore needed to conform in this year. As we're not, the timing is not critical for us.
Agree with this. But it was soon after the contract renewal that interview went on tigers plus, so maybe things deteriorated since then?
Wonder if Liam dropped Pandur from the squad to make a point. I’ve defended Liam on most things, but I’ve always said his stubbornness over Allsop will cost him
I assumed we were including Ingram towards the end as a 'thank you and goodbye' and to remind clubs he was in the shop window, but if Baz is correct it's more a reflection on Pandur as Liam saw it. Though I will say about Allsop his 'mistakes' got ever more exaggerated as it became a bit of a pile on. He was getting **** for stuff he could do nothing about - or certainly no worse than the majority of keepers at this level - at times. Even HT2 came out and said he'd improved at one point recently when the criticism was getting more and more ridiculous amongst certain sections of the 'social media' fanbase. Interesting that Burnley wanted Sinik before we signed him though, if true. Was Zaroury, as a direct comparison really that much better in our system? Twine perhaps didn't meet the initial hype and expectation, but he did more than both combined in the end.
Only done a quick browse of this thread because it’s 40 pages and **** reading all that. I’m really surprised that some people are glad LR has gone though. He’s had us playing some of the finest football I’ve ever seen a Hull City team play. The fans are engaged, and apart from a few dinosaurs who think you should launch the ball every time it’s in your defensive third, the vast majority of the fan base had his backing. Football’s a process, it takes time and one thing we saw without doubt was progression under Liam. The only thing I would say though is on paper, when everyone was fit we probably had one of the very best starting 11s in the league. Carvalho’s career and clubs alone make him better than any other player in the league. I suppose acun thought we needed to be extracting more from the talent we had on paper. Again though, that takes time. Very harsh not to give him until at least the January transfer window
Would have been mad to change Allsop in the run in. All it would take was a bad game or two from Pandur and everyone would be slamming him for changing keepers.
Fabio has had 1 successful season playing in a well established promoted side before coming back and doing very well for us since Jan, but he's 21. He's far from the finished article. Hasn't ripped up any trees outside the championship. Same as everyone else. Call it experience, leadership or self motivation, but they're not 'complete' world beaters. They have huge potential but that doesn't do us much long term good on a short term loan. But we signed too many in Jan IMHO. most didn't massively improve us, it was overkill and caused more disruption which offset the gains by actually signing the talent with hindsight. Every other window we sign 10+ and lose sight of the core as a result, starting again gelling players etc... It's like an abundance of riches following a period of drought. We can't keep lurching from new squad to new manager, double figures recruitment every 6 months and keep any semblance of stability and progress. At some point, if we don't want to be a very expensive mistake for Acun we're going to have to put a process in place and see it through. It's got to be the right one, but it's almost like being owned by an excited teenager with ADHD who's played too much champ at the moment.
