I actually agree with the sentiment that Plan A should work best for the game and if it does, you don't need a Plan B because if your A didn't work it means you ****ed it before you started.

Plan A isn't the same thing we do every game, it means the tactic that the manager has picked for that game.

That being said, we played the same tactic for 46 games and we finished 7th. I'm not sure it can be argued that what we did didn't work at all, it just needed tweaking in moments when it wasn't as effective.

One of those tweaks should have been options off the bench, effective ones, which I don't think we had. All our best players were on the pitch, but there was nobody of equal quality to bring on when we really needed it.

While Delap and Connolly were injured, we had Ohio who at the time was still settling in and didn't look ready so all we had was Billy Sharp who, bless him, looked every bit his age. Thankfully Carvalho stepped up. We didn't have any wide players for cover. Not suggesting they would have definitely solved the problem, but if we could have had Longman and Oscar on the bench to bring on in those games where we lacked a bit of flair, it might have made the difference.

Rosenior said he likes to work with a small squad, but I find that to be detrimental in the Championship. We play at least 48 games, so aside from the back up keeper, you've got to have a squad capable of going the distance and enough quality in depth to replace any injuries or address tactical issues that arise. For me it was one of the biggest pitfalls of last season and we should be looking to have better depth and a slightly bigger squad this time around.

Could be in my own here but for me it’s high time we stopped wallowing in self pity and what might have been and try at least to concentrate now on what is actually need now player wise to have another crack at the play offs. Whoever does come in it wouldn’t surprise me if the bloke already has earache about what’s needed from an owners point of view and with so many question marks about who will stay and who might come in plus potentially contracts still to be ironed out here and there I think we need to calm down a bit and let things take shape and at least try and enjoy our summer break without progressively bringing on any more heart attacks before a ball has been f’kin kicked.

Let those who know best do their thing.

    Come on England !

I don't think we played the same way at all. Leicester away was very different to Southampton away which was very different to Huddersfield away.

There's a transfer thread for that, this is a thread about Rosenior. There's also a new manager thread for the new manager.

I agree. I thought the lack of quality depth in our squad was our biggest weakness all season as it felt like every sub was a significant downgrade on the player coming off.

I know LR got a lot of stick for not making changes, but I'm not sure he always had someone at his disposal that would be able to keep the team playing at the level they had been, let alone change a game.

I think that’ll always be an issue for non parachute teams though

Move what? You asked people to move on in a thread specifically about our former manager.

Well perhaps slightly more if he's watched any of the game which most of us haven't <laugh>

Whatever he's done or hasn't done so far is just subject to opinion. There've been B2 pundits I've seen who say both good and bad about him. It's just words, TWT, once he gets here, and more importantly who they bring in/out to play for him.

What ever happens I'm genuinely excited by the prospect of singing Valterloo at the top of my voice :emoticon-0159-music:emoticon-0159-music

Maybe acun wants his say tonight then Rosie will be allowed after that.
Acun then doesn’t need to face any tricky questions, by which time it’s all about the new guy

On this debate of coaches having a plan B or not, IMO really comes down to the level of coach your situation can attract. If a coach has a Plan A, B & C the chances are he would be plying his trade in the top divisions.

If you are in the 2nd tier you are not generally going to get a top coach unless you go for a young manager who develops into a top coach, similar to Ipswich.

Personally, I thought Liam given time could, and probably will, develop into a top coach, but Acun clearly was impatient and not willing to give him that time.

As for Tim Walter, he seems to have had in the past the reputation of not having this plan B, hence why he is plying his trade in 2nd tier football. It will come down to whether since leaving Hamburg he has looked at this flaw, and hopefully learnt how to change a game if plan A is not working.

I think all talk about Plans A and B are unsubstantiated.

Most teams these days will play the same style all the time but any manager with any sort of working knowledge of football will tweak things depending on how a game develops and for different opposition.

A lot of the time we might not notice it but it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

I’m sure Walter will tweak when needed, just like Rosie did.
