he's not the first to retire when at the top, but will it be for good? Or will he come back like so many others have? Racing is a hard thing to get out of the blood

This is huge news and brilliant for the off season

Rosberg is a family guy and i think all the travel etc he's said **** this and walked off. He's dumped a huge laod of potential merchandising etc so maybe he will be o nthe tour and writing his book etc

    Possibilites:

    1. Mercedes beg him to stay and offer more cash

    2. Mercedes put in Wehrlein from test and make hamilton no 1 driver.

    3. Mercedes dump hamilton is a swap for vettel too (mad that thought)

    4. Mercedes go try snag someone under contract like vettel or ricciardo or verstappen

I just think this will make a for a great story unitl we see some cars coming out.

I think personally no 2 will occur and then some serious stuff will go on aorund vettel for the following year. either ferrari sort it out and pay hugely or mercedes get him.

The temptation of german driver german car i think will be just too much

I think it's a sensible if surprising decision. He's a champion but he's 31, has recently become a father and doesn't need the money.

If the Mercedes is still dominant following next year's rule changes, it's unlikely that Hamilton will be so unlucky again and with equal reliability, it's likely he'd come out ahead of Rosberg. That would tarnish what Rosberg's achieved this season, maybe fairly, maybe not.

If the Mercedes falls behind Red Bull and others, what's the point running around as champion in 3rd or 4th place?

What's about Bottas? Depends if Mercedes want a solid No 2 capable of winning a few races or an unpredictable hot-shoe kid.

When I first heard this I was in utter shock and thinking he’d just bottled it. But after digesting it, It really is the perfect time for him. He’s reached the pinnacle, he’s got a young family, he’s well off and he’s in one piece.

Better to have regrets about what you didn’t do in racing than to have regrets about what you failed to be for your family.

he's not been impressive frankly. When williams had a good car he messed up too much.

    not for me.

but yes a total no 2 driver there.

I give him 2 months of screaming babies and dirty nappies before he announces he's back.

Then again he's had to deal with a crying baby for a few seasons now, so maybe not.

having a hot wife and loads of cash means squealing night feeds are never a concern.

Irvine on his vachts shows the rewards. It seems to take real hunger to win multiple titles

Before schumacher there was prost/senna before that it was stewart and lauda etc... not its vettel and hamilton... in between we saw guys like mansell etc win the single title

We are in an era where we seem to foget dominance of eras gone by for some reason. Maybe the guard will change now and the red bull crop will start thier era. who knows

Hamilton could have 2 more years of dominance for all i know and win 5. Or he could be in a car about to go south and win none. who knows. I suspect the former. It'll be very interesting anyway.

    I don't think he's bottled it..
He wanted to become world champion, he did that..
Don't think there's any bluff in what he said, in his video he said he knows what he had to do this year to win and doesn't want to put that effort in again, effort maybe meaning being away from his family more than he'd like..
Again, going out on top, on your own terms, can't beat that!
