Has he done this on the basis that he thinks he has a better chance of getting into the Ireland squad than team GB? He was going to get pelters for it whichever team he chose but i don't think he was altogether wise to express some of his considerations in public before making his final decision.
Yet the Jackeens offered him the chance to carry said flag at the opening ceremony over someone like Paddy Barnes?
There is an element of hypocrisy about a guy criticising someone for thinking about representing another 'country' when in a few weeks time he'll be fighting under a different flag hoping to raise a flag that isn't a tricolour. No biggie. I like Paddy Barnes and I'm sure he can justify his decision but I'm sure McIlroy can say the same.... And he's a dick.
I dunno. I don't like him and I don't think golf should be at the Olympics anyway. But the whole duality thing has been a ****ish thing for him to have had to deal with from such a young age. But I agree 100% he should have kept his own counsel on it.
That's definitely not on in my book. I don't like it when any country just gives that honour to tennis players, footballers etc. rather than the ones for whom the olympics has ben a lifelong ambition.
One competes under two flags and is criticising another for taking his time to chose to compete under one. I know the situations are different but that's the crux of it. Essentially Barnes isn't prepared to hear a rationale from McIlroy whilst expecting understanding for his own. That was what holding the flag was all about.
