It was more about why some clubs appoint well known players as managers, is it for the, “Frank Lampard’s Coventry, Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth?”
Do they feel that the media is giving them more coverage?

Any club owner who appoints a manager, primarily on the basis that it will get them more media coverage, probably shouldn’t be a club owner.

A manager should only ever be appointed based on his ability to successfully manage.

If you want to increase a club’s profile in the media with someone you bring in, it should be a player, not a manager.

I agree, but some clubs/owners want the fanfare rather than fan appreciation.

I remember when we appointed Silva and Merson said "Why didn't we appoint an English Manager like Thierry Henry instead of a foreign Manager". He said this live on Sky FFS.

What an unknowledgeable twot Merson is? cannot even get his codes right. Everyone knows Henry was a brilliant basketballer....watched him once singlehandedly destroy RoI in a game of hoops.

I love to hate Rooney, but sometimes it's difficult.

He’s sort of your likeable rogue. Fantastic player in his prime, now looking for a calling, not sure management is it… he’s loaded as well so respect for forgoing the pay off.

If he wants to stay involved then It should either be a step back into coaching at top level, management at a much lower level or buying into a sleeping club in non league with potential a bit like Savage has done

He's got the cash. Vardy's missus has pretty much paid for it already.

He could easily go into punditry, but part of me wants him to be better than that.

It's weird really.
