Oh come on, half his goals were against San Marino and Lichtenstein! Just cos he's got a ton of goals against mickey mouse countries doesn't make him the best, Kane and Vardey are clearly better strikers. Rooney's become more of an all round player and he's got older and his play has adapted and passing improved a lot, yeah he can get goals, but he's clearly more useful to a team as a midfielder.

I'm still clinging to the hope that he might retire from international football which would take the decision out of the hands of the next England manager.

Unbelievably harsh. He actually had a good euros. He was very good against Russia and Wales. Benched against Slovakia. And yeah he bottled Iceland, just like but then so did alli and I rate him as decent.

To be honest he is one of our few top quality players in my opinion. most of our players are massively overrated. I'm not sure he is a world class midfielder but he certainly looked very very good, Iceland game aside. Seriously who we going to pick ahead of him. Barkley is decent. After that you have drinkwater, Wilshere, Henderson, noble, Milner - they wouldn't even get in a top nations squad - they'd all take Rooney.

Seems Jose doesn't think Rooney is a midfielder either

Not really. Rooney either performs well as a forward or he finds himself on the bench.

I think Jose is setting him up to fail anyway, making it easier to move him on. He's not good enough for the very top level anymore, something Jose always aims for.
