Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Moyes sell Rooney to Man U? Anyway as to the question I'd only take Rooney if we bought another new striker to go with him as I don't think Ade or Defoe suit with him.

Yep, and they had a big falling out afterwards too

Rooney is 28 in the early part of next season, he is known to have problems managing his weight (which has obviously frustrated SAF this season and won't get better as he gets older) and his form is not consistent. He has been very good at times, but abysmal at others. It will be interesting to see if he can work with Moyes or whether the club will want to cash in whilst he still has a value on the transfer market and get him off the wage bill. The latter looks increasingly likely, but I'm not sure where he will go unless he changes his wage demands (unlikely). He won't be going gto Spurs. City is a possibility, but would they want him? Swap for Aguero? <laugh>

I'm sorry he is being discussed on potential performance only. For me I don't want players at Spurs who have no class - and I mean that in the widest sense. I don't want people with his sort of baggage and with his sort of temperament (which when he leaves the protection of ManU will result in him getting far more red cards than he does now). I am not going to slag off a player from another team and then welcome them with open arms to our club. We are better than ManU in many ways, and I don't want to import what I hate about other clubs.

Totally agree with this Vim - and his level of performance is so poor at the moment he wouldn't even get my vote in that score.
'Class is permanent' so they say - which doesn't bode well for Mr Rooney!!!

Solid player, but not the all round forward we need; he drops deep to get the ball, which will congest our midfield even more and ruin any chance of the space we'd use on the counter to exploit. An unusual player. Weight issues, attitude issues, wage issues. A great player on his day but he's 28, transfer value of 30m and that again in wages. We'd be nowhere near. Much prefer a youngster of high repute (son, tello, aubemyang etc) and one "decent" 22-24 year old with a potential ceiling to equal that (damiao etc).

I'm with vimhawk on this one. As it happens, while I know cases can be made about various character failings of a number of our current players, they seem like a bunch of pretty decent human beings to me--certainly by the standards of professional athletes, anyway.

Rooney ain't. He's not a Suarez or a Terry, just a run-of-the-mill asshole with no self-control. I never rated him as highly as almost everyone else did. I'll admit he's been a big asset for Man U. But he's not the blinding talent people have called him, I think. He's got a great motor, a lot of determination and spirit on his day, and very good, but not great, skills. He can also be insufferable on the field, now he's getting fat, and I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team.

I'd take Nani, though. He's very talented, and while his motivation has looked very suspect, if AVB could get his head on straight, and I think he's as good a bet as anyone to be able to do so, he'd be a fantastic asset. It would be worth the risk, I think.

Didn't we try to get Nani some years back but he went to United instead?
