At the end of the day, some bloke has threatened to beat him with a golf club and Rooney has turned around and said "ok, you know where I am, come and try it". Most people would respond the same way if threatened by some nutter on the internet. You just know if any other footballer had said the same people would either ignore it or probably praise them for not responding with swear words or OTT threats.

And if Dalglish had said something like that KPR would be creaming over his "devastating put down"...

Dalglish wouldn't say something like that though, let's be realistic.

I really don't have a problem with what Rooney said though, he put a cocky little kid in his place, what I do have a problem with is his manager/pr company trying to claim it was just "banter".

Daglish has a twitter account I think he's the only manager that does.

Yeah I know - I've just looked at his Twitter page and it is about as banal as you can get!

To be fair to Rooney it was just banter. Or do you really think if some twat turned up at Carrington in a Micra with a golf club Rooney would actually fight him?! It was just the standard "I have the biggest dick" chat you get all the time on forums, chatrooms and on Twitter.

To be honest, Rooney is a Dick for posting that. Okay some numbskull tried to wind him up, but he took the bait and made a fool of himself. As a professional footballer, and a high profile celebrity, he should have known better really. I think Fergie needs to step in and ban his players from using Twitter.

Hmm Rooney internet warrior? I know all footballers are arses and Ashley Cole is as big as they come at times but how can a club the size of United have not have foreseen this type of problem arising? some of the technical staff should be a field apart from the trailer park mentality that Rooney is from?

I agree - most EPL clubs seem to have this "wait till the horse has bolted" attitude to problems like this. Liverpool only cared about Twitter after Babel got his charge, and I bet Chelsea have now put new safety procedures in place after that kid got shot. But United seem to have failed to learn the lessons from SAF's "referee not fair" comments, which were broadcast by our own TV channel <doh>
