Here in Menorca we can have temps of +30c from late May to mid September. The trick is to shut out as much sun as possible, that is why we have window shutters, they may look antiquated but they are highly effective at keeping room temperatures down by as much as 50%. Try closing the curtains in the house, yes it may be dark, but the cooling benefit will soon be felt. We keep all our window shutters closed throughout the day in rooms that are in direct sunlight and by doing so we get away with air-con in just the bedrooms - nowhere else. Outdoor shade is vital too, a poxy umbrella in the garden isn't going to do it - you need a pergola or an awning to keep the sun well away. Most important of all - drink a pint of water an hour in the day - and a pint of cold beer per hour at night - that should do it.
