I have been impressed more by Joao Moutinho, Miguel Veloso and Raul Meireles this tournament then Ronaldo. Them three really dicatate the middle of the park brilliantly.

To be fair I didn't watch last nights game, he might have had a stinker last night but I also like the look of Gebre Selassie for Czech, looks a very handy right back.

Had you watched last night's game, you wouldn't of listed Veloso and Meireles as impressive. Both of them were awful!

I dunno, I think they've also got the best full-backs in the tournamet, and I rate that Moutinho bloke as well, but I do know what you mean.

I actually disagree with the OP here, I don't think any individual has particularly stood out thus far but I would say there haven't been many who have more of an impact than Ronaldo - three goals so far and he led them out of the 'Group of Death'. I thought a bit the opposite from some of you last night, there were a couple of headers that he that were incredibly difficult and that tosser Pearce was saying "he should have done a lot better" or "he should have that one away" when most footballers wouldn't have even got a touch on it. Can't stand the bloke but there is no denying he is a phenomenally talented footballer.

The thing that did my head in most last night was every time they spoke of Meireles and kept calling him MerrelESH with a ridiculous emphasis on the SH at the end. Why don't we accept we are English, we have an English accent and should therefore pronounce it as it looks to us, it's almost as irritating as when Motson used to go on and on about Glenn Hysen/Hussain from back in the 80's <steam>

With you there. Frankie Dettorri speaks English very well but his accent is a Harry Enfield pastiche of a wop waiter. I go to Spain and speak the language but my accent makes me stand out as English straightaway.
When we are in Britain we don't go around calling it Polska, we call it Poland.
Commentators you are making a mesh of it.

Gebre Selassie was ****ing woeful and at fault for Ronaldo's goal! <doh>

I agree he was at fault for the goal. Useful player though, gets up and down the pitch very well, good overlapping runs etc. Would question some of his defending at times, would have to see a bit more but a decent player all the same.

Well Carra I would expect you to find a reason to disagree with whatever my take on it was. But the man is worth an absolute fortune. Ronaldo may have helped a cancer patient, applaud him for that, it doesn't stop him being a tosser. it's a drop in the ocean compared to Didier Drogba who is a real humanitarian, building multimillion pound hospitals and orphanages and helping rebuild his country after the war there.

can't defend for toffee. would be completely out of his depth at premier league level. totally relies on his pace to get back and make amends for his numerous errors. really can't see what people are seeing in him <ok>

Disagree mate, I think he defends well at times, thought he done well against Lewandowski in the Poland game. I still don't think he is worth the risk but will be interesting to see how he does at Werder Bremen, I think he'll do well. Looks a good player to me!

I agree, basically very useful attacking but defending is quite average. Poor positioning, not great in the air and often stands off his player. Maybe an ok backup RB in the prem but not a first team player. Strikes me as a good version of Otsemobor, clearly a much better version. Not a hopeless player but average defensively.

i think people have been drawn to him because of his name! honestly, if you think he's a good defender that's your opinion but i wouldn't want him anywhere near our club. reminds me of a poor mans glen johnson, but not as good going forward

Because of his name? I don't judge a player by their name supers?

And I did say I don't want us to sign him as he is too big a risk, especially as I have seen him play 3 times haha

I think he is stronger going forward, but still does a job defensively. But agree to disagree I guess.

certainly going to have to disagree on this one!

he's what i'd call a 'disaster waiting to happen' type defender <laugh>

He has done a lot more than the vast majority of footballers have ever done. If he is a tosser then you can aim that at most footballers.

I don't think many footballers would have done what Ronaldo did to Rooney, that lack of integrity is the reason I will never be able to abide the man. I would be completely ashamed if an Englishman had done it and it would devalue any victory, worse for me even than Suarez handling against Ghana which was a split second reaction.

I think Selassie has looked very good, up until last night when he was woeful. Not sure he's Premier League standard, but we shall see - I think he'd do alright, and it may well be an excellent signing.

Oh, and I don't care that I'm disagreeing with all of you, but for the last two games Ronaldo has been absolutely immense. Yes, he's missed a hatful of chances, but just look at the work he does, especially off the ball, to get into those positions. His work rate has been absolutely top class and he never stops running. I know it's not hard, although Portugal have got some good players (Coentrao, Pepe, Veloso, Meireles, Moutinho), but Ronaldo was the best player on that pitch by miles and miles and miles last night. Any argument that suggests otherwise smacks of ingnorance in my opinion.

Yuo won't get any dosagreement from me fella, I'm with you all the way <ok>

Yes Selassie didn't have the best of games last night, but in the games I've seen (the Greece and Poland ones) he has indeed looked excellent. I also have never suggested we sign him or said he would do well in the PL, just saying he has had a good tournament from where I'm sitting and have heard similar from many of the pundits.

Totally agree. A totally different player/person from his Man United days.

I have made it clear that he has improved as a person since his Man United days.
