One of your old keepers had died of a heart attack aged 65

Sad to hear that, Ron Healey was a good keeper and as I recall a great man. RIP Ron Bluebird! :emoticon-0103-cool:

Healey was a goalkeeper who began his career with Manchester City. Following an apprenticeship with City, he signed professional forms for the club in October 1969 and he made his debut at 17. As he was the understudy to the English international goalkeeper Joe Corrigan, he only played 30 times for City between 1970 and 1974 before moving to Cardiff City in March 1974, making his debut in a 2–2 draw with West Bromwich Albion. On his arrival he shared the no.1 spot with Bill Irwin before eventually managing to claim the spot as his own. During the 1975–76 season he helped the club to win promotion to Division Two.[1]

During his time at Cardiff, Ron, when asked to find a young new goalkeeper, discovered a 12-year-old Andy Dibble.

After a spell with Bangor City, he retired from the game through injury.

    Sad news.

Him and Bill Irwin were the two keepers at city when I started watching.
I seem to recall them both being irish international keepers, one for N Ireland the other for Eire.

RIP - never saw him play myself. I know he was very well thought of by older City fans I know.

Sad to hear of Ron's passing. Saw him play a number of times when I could get down to the city. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear this news, Ron Healy was a decent keeper. 65 is just too young......

Fred Davies was the keeper the first time I saw City

Vernacombe was a good keeper, was challenged and eventually overcome by a young Dilwyn John! :emoticon-0103-cool:

Ron Healey was a fabulous keeper and one of my favourite players of that era.

Recall him saving a penalty up at Sunderland to ensure a win.

Also recall his one cap for Eire at Wembley when he was chipped by Keegan.

My favourite memory of him though was up at Derby when he was injured and played on (as only one sub in those days) and heroically kept a clean sheet.

65 is no age. RIP Ron.
