Obama all the way. Romney could run Hitler pretty close when it comes to right-wing insanity and outdated ideas. Predictably though Romney will get enough votes from the Rednecks in the Southern States and The Housewives in California to make it close.
Hasn't had it easy has he, Obama? Unresolvable issues like world recession, Iraq and Afghanistan coming in and still there to haunt him. Black man pushing a healthcare system? He's having a laugh ain't he? Americans far too I'm alright Jack for all that. ****ing lefty??? (About as left as Rangercol I reckon!) World's a less polarised place with him around though. Under the circs you'd expect the white Republican contender to be streets ahead by now. Would be a major coup if Obama pulls this off. Go on son, get in!!
Looks like Obama which is good as far as I am concerned. Anyone here who actually said they preferred Romney, quite frankly needs to be locked in a small room with Mr Hughes for a good telling off.
Sad that with such a vast population they can't come up with anything better than those two, says it all. Should be God help America rather than God bless America...
well thats gunna change compulsory voting in australia even if you spoil your paper you are expected to turn up they ussually pick a few non voters as an example and fine em
So you're not an Aussie citizen then? Voting ( or at least turning up even if you spoil the ballot paper) is I think compulsory there. Sorry Kiwi, you got there first in Aussie Civics 101. Glad, to a limited degree, that Obama got in. In my experience the US is just as polarized as many of the posts on this thread. When we get a non white, woman, avowedly Athiest US President ( or for that matter British Prime Minister) we'll be making progress.
I'm baffled by this, Queens. If you don't "do politics" (I note complete with exclamation mark for extra emphasis), have never so much as stepped into a voting booth or touched a ballot paper, then why "Obama all the way"? If you don't "do politics" then why care who became President, Prime Minister or Head Warmongerer?
There hasn't been a majority of White people voting Democrat since 1964. Most of us weren't even born then. The toxic legacy of segregation is still rotting the heart of the US.
Im the same, I will never vote but wanted Obama in for the same of world piece. As south park put it, its a choice between a giant douce and a turd sandwich. The yanks only choice is to elect a right winger or a far right winger and the latter believes the world is 3000 years old, doesnt believe in evolution and the rapture (destruction of earth leading them to fly up to heaven) will start in the middle east. You just have to look at the BBC map to see the Reps. are the redneck states.
Go back and look at Romney's remarkably liberal governorship of Massachusetts, including establishing a healthcare system which is the model for Obama care, and think again. His father, who ran against Nixon for the Republican nomination in the sixties was a very honorable man. Not that I would vote for him. The Mormon thing is not alluring, and Republican internal politics forces any candidate to the right to get the nomination.
Then I'm just as baffled by you too, Flyer. (Plus ça change.) If your reluctance to vote is down to the unappealing nature of the candidates before you - and, by crikey, I can sympathise totally with you in the case of our home politics - then register a protest vote for a local issue candidate. All those that don't exercise their right to vote because they don't feel they can make a difference are simply helping to maintain the status quo. (But, in this case, it don't sound so nice, what you're proposing). Even a mere 30% electoral turnout is sufficient to keep the Not-So-Fab Three main parties at the hub of the British political system if so many apathetic voters simply abstain. If the Silent Abstentia were to exercise a protest vote elsewhere, there's every reason to expect either the collapse of the existing parties, or their compelete re-invention to something that represents the hopes of the electorate. Personally, I'd prefer the former. It is interesting to note that fewer people, particularly the young, are becoming members of the main political parties. Apparently, many prefer becoming active members of specific issue protest groups instead. Whilst this is understandable and admirable, it will not change the status quo. What is happening instead, is that the 3 main parties are becoming all the more in the thrall of a smaller group of benefactors, each with their own agendae. This is where we know US politics to be (gun lobby, christian fundamentalists, gay rights, pro-abortionists, pro-Israel, anti-Islam etc. etc.) albeit more advanced and extreme today. People, if there's nobody out there that represents you today, then don't sit on your hands - Vote them out. And continue to vote them out until there is.
Indeed. That's when the two parties "switched sides" as it were. Up until then the Dems were conservative and racist and the Reps were Liberal. Both sides pretty much flipped around that time.
Ill do that when they do PR because votes dont matter in the current climate. Both sides are liars and are only out for themselves, not the people who vote for them. eg, Labour want want invasive surveillance on the internet and the torys make a big deal about how bad it is. Torys come in and want the exact same things they shouted down only a year earlier.
