Great win for Charles, thought Red Bull would be slightly faster but this race still showed up Mercs lacks of pace. 41 seconds behind Le Clerc.

Gutted for Sainz- Ferrari were issuing an absolute beat down on Red Bull today until that point!!

I can't see this happening but isn't there a rule that the throttle must respond directly to the drivers input? So a sticky throttle could be against rules!
I think Charles will be fine as it was not an intended throttle response.

Glad the fans criticised for abusive behaviour this weekend have just witnessed their driver be overtaken and go backwards today. F1 does not need fans like that.

It's people in general just becoming more and more toxic. Look at "fans" reactions to any incident on social media and it's just a stream of spew. Side effect of F1s growing popularity I guess.

The same as last weekend. There is a toxicity amongst the F1 fan bases which needs to be stamped out sharpish. The media need to do their part too instead of inciting it.... I'm looking at you Crofty

nothing to do with the sport, all to do with 'social' media and mob mentality.

I’d like to know what improvements Merc have made according to Hamilton. They were nowhere in the race today. Yes, they had a podium because Sainz blew up but pace wise nothing has changed.

I suspect they are better in high speed corners, but missing a chunk of performance at low speed where traction is king. Ferrari and Red Bull blow them away in that regard.

That to me explains his relative pace at Silverstone- high speed sweeping circuit- and his pace today in Austria- heavy braking zones and traction out of them being crucial.

Not sure how Paul Ricard and Hungaroring will be for them- perhaps France will suit them better. Hungary is more of a constantly medium speed turning circuit so it won’t be awful but they’re not gonna beat RBR or Ferrari there.

So chuffed for Charles after a hideous run of fortune. He should be leading the championship, and bar one mistake at Imola has driven pretty faultlessly.

On that front, can we put the “oh but he does make a lot of mistakes” stuff to bed now?

Not sure if that’s been directed at Charles? Always thought it was Sainz who got that criticism (sometimes fairly and sometimes not so IMO) but as you say Charles has been stellar this season.

Oh he gets it the whole time when being compared to Max - "he's very quick but makes a lot of little mistakes" - no. No, he really doesn't (and you know who else used to make a lot of mistakes....Max).

Mainly on socials though rather than here. Man, it's so toxic on so many of those places.

    It's horrendous.

I follow Alonso's Facebook feed. The comments are just angry Spanish people calling Hamilton a crybaby and a loser. Any F1 topic at all and Hamilton's name will come up within 2 comments, regardless of whether the matter at hand has anything to do with him.

It's madness. DTS has done a hell of a lot for the sport, but then it's also attracted that lot too...

Couldn’t agree more, the social media side of it brings out the worst in people.

The cobblers we have to listen to is outrageous. Yesterday I’d got someone trying to say Hamilton should retire as he’s on a downhill trend and too old.

Guess this was a Liberty fan boy who has never seen Alonso for the past ten years or understands that this is heavily dictated by the level of the car performance <laugh>

I still remember with sheer anger Jonny Herbert and at times Rachel Brooke’s trying to stick the knife into Fernando Alonso when he was having that horrid time for McLaren Honda, saying he should retire. He’s shut those two muppets up in spades hasn’t he, what a driver!!

Should be banned, smoke was drifting on to the track, just imagine if Max had driven through the smoke, lost his bearings and crashed out, would the halfwits have cheered that or committed mass suicide

Agree- in a sport where milliseconds of reaction are everything, the last thing you want is smoke impairing vision
