Slow sector 2 in it though. Purple first.

He could have literally just met the requirements.

As it’s only for the sprint race positions if I was Charles I wouldn’t even bother making an attempt to get pole

    Red flag fest!

Absolutely shocking from Merc... Even dodgy conditions can't help mask their problems.

Messy. Amazing they can't keep a car on the road here. It's barely wet.

    The sprints will be fun.

Ferrari can certainly still get pole for race and 1/2 if sainz gets on with it.

How the heck have Mercedes scored the points they have with that car. Goodness me it looked horrific today.

How much downforce must that Ferrari have? It’s an absolute beast!!

McLaren was an odd one today- 6 seconds off and looking woeful in the wet FP1 and then looking decent on inters in quali. Whatever tuning they’ve done on the package has seemingly averted fears of a total mess of a car. However, they don’t look to have the downforce and traction Ferrari and RBR

Correct, in combination with the rear facing camera, flex can be determined by the relative position of each dot.

Until now the Merc has been the third fastest car and effectively the second fastest that generally finishes. Doesn’t look to be the case this weekend though. Unless something significant changes, they’re going to be in a dog fight for 3rd with McLaren and Alpine who seem to be coming on strong now. The early lead they’ve built, means they’ll likely still be third at the mid point in the championship, which will keep them heavily penalised for aero development and hold them down a bit longer.

Watching the Marc's bounce along and then watching the ferrari bounce along i can only conclude that the sparks from the ferrari indicate it can run lower and that the ferrari is fundamentally more stable compared the the merc

The bouncing is a smokescreen imo. That merc is just plain poor through corners and the other teams like mclaren and alpine are just making faster strides and have overtaken the merc.

I think the merc had better get ready for a very long poor season cos what it's done thus far is trundle round staying out of trouble and picked up scraps from red bull, now mclaren or alpine will

Is it possible for Merc to abandon this car completely and go to a spec B design? Or is that not allowed?

No idea but it's not necessarily power as the mclaren is a merc and has passed them by

I think its chassis and suspension and aero, the whole thing

The ferrari can bounce along madly then just sweep in through a corner like it is on rails.

    It's bizarre!
