Bottas is making the track too long for himself. He's not even getting close round the rest of track. The issue is all Russell needs do is park it on inside and we can all forget about it.
Think he'd have been much better off staying off Gasly and seeing if he could have a crack at Albon. Any DRS advantage was totally lost.
The issue is that corner has 1 line and only 1 line. You must be past before it or there's no way past. Red bull 1/2 Terrible start for ferrari today and never recovered. Threw 3rd away. Great for mclaren Great for alpha Great for Aston 2 cars scoring points here. Great for haas Great for Russell Bad day for alpine, Hamilton, Schumacher and ricciardo and sainz. Very poor for leclerc after Friday and the start in the sprint.
Outrageous for Norris and McLaren to be on a podium after Bahrain- what a huge result for maximising points. Well done George too, nice race. I’ve no surprise at Hamilton struggling to adjust to a midfield battle- it was no different for Schumacher either and doesn’t detract from how good they are at the front end. RBR 1-2 in Italy just a nice sharp reminder for anyone thinking Ferrari are dominating - the straight line speed is still an issue and will be intrigued to see if they reduce drag on their Barca upgrades.
I really don't think he has the car to pass even the williams if he did let gasly at it. Russell held his position and let others about him fall down. It's just a fact that the car in front gets to pit first when the chaos is happening and Hamilton was absolutely punted by alpine. Struggler will struggle more just cos they are second to the party
One thing is for sure..merc must bring massive upgrades very very soon. They should have had some here.
Think they just need a new car. They are absolutely light years behind Ferrari and RBR. It could take more than this season to close that gap.
A tight title race is back on. Good race for Lando and Carrot Cruncher (not sure Norfolk is known for carrots) Russell
Just looking across the net at post race reactions and have seen some fans calling for a new team principal at Mercedes Goodness me, the short sightedness. A few things I’m looking for: - Mercedes power unit or fuel upgrades - surely there is more grunt in that PU than what we are seeing? -Ferrari trying to keep the downforce but reduce the drag. - Mercedes “B Spec” new philosophy (possibly mid season like McLaren 2009?) -McLaren brake solution that doesn’t look like I welded them -Alpine finding a tyre window that lets them fight on a Sunday
As far as PU upgrade - they were homologated a while ago (1st March) - only things left are: the control electronics, the energy store (battery) and the MGU-K (motor generator unit – kinetic) until 1st September 2022 but I think it's only 1 upgrade of each. McLaren brakes are an interesting one as you would have thought a redesign and production of the new ones would have been before now! Only thing I can think of is they are trying to maximise use of budget and not just making ones that work but ones that improve performance as well? Bit worrying that Toto said something about 6 to 10 races when talking about issues so you might be right with a B spec car but budget might not allow that. Then again what about the original car they tested on first test session? That might be better than what they have now - can't be much worse?
Just looking ahead to Miami Street circuits often require high downforce though clearly some straight line speed will be advantageous here. Will be interesting to see that play out.
They might not need a new team principal but they need some brand new aerodynamicists that’s for sure.
