The Flying Monk, my favourite poster on ITTV, who predicted Roland would sell up on July 17th this year. It went on for months. A very witty chap, TFM.
Absolutely essential that the take-over goes through. Too many players doing just enough to get by, playing safe. The lack of ambition at the top of the club has permeated at every level, including the fans. It's a matter of urgency.
I have read numerous reports that the practionioner of sophistry Meire was very prominent at the “celebrations” on Saturday. Her long nose was apparently to be seen freely swaggering around in the lounges before the game, and on the pitch of course at half time. Two ways of viewing this - 1. A diligent albeit hated CEO, steadfastly doing her duty through a hail of tissue papered rosettes. 2. A vile agitator, still knowing that she is here for the long term.
Think she just loves the attention. She is probably on borrowed time in regards to maintaining a job in football so taking full advantage.
She must imagine that there will be a long list of English football clubs competing for her services when she is booted out of CAFC.
I know this sounds bizarre for somebody who is obviously intelligent enough to become a lawyer, and ambitious enough to want a prominent job (to be 'famous' in other words, in a professional sense). But Katrien Meire seems unable to understand why she is so reviled. She seems to think she has only ever behaved in a modern, sensible, businesslike manner, and she clearly regards the cherished traditions and values held by most Charlton supporters (and indeed English football fans) as odd and amusing quirks. It is not just a cultural difference either. I am willing to accept that many people may feel differently about their football Clubs in Belgium. But Meire lacks any nouse /savvy / streetwise element to her outlook. Because she cannot empathise or sympathise either, this makes her supremely unsuited to the job Roland has gifted her. Neither is it about hard decisions. Karren Brady takes hard decisions, and she knows how much those decisions upset some football people. But Brady has nouse. She completely understands how much she hurts other people sometimes to get what she wants. She just does not care.
Academic intelligence is very different to emotional intelligence. I have worked with some incredibly clever people - household names - who are not nice people on a one to one level
In her last comments she implied that there were cultural problems with English football fans and their tribal loyalty to their football clubs - it was as if she had forgotten she is a guest in this country and an unwanted one at that
She was given a pretty warm welcome when she first joined the club. It's convenient for her to forget that because that would mean admitting that she destroyed all that goodwill herself, admittedly with a lot of help from Roland. She'll never admit the simple truth that she has never been fit for purpose as CEO.
When she joined a few of our male fans had a not-so-soft spot for Meire. Mentioning no names @baraettmattesvensson
