SAFC could be in Europe before you know it, just in time for the Financial Fair Play rules to kick in. What does all this mean for our club?

Well we asked the experts. The Swiss Ramble is not only one of the best football business blogs, but one of the best blogs on any subject, and they were kind enough to talk to Roker Report about what these new rules mean, and how they could affect SAFC...

Enjoy!

Thanks very much. The rule can be confusing, but hopefully this cleared a few things up, especially from a 'how or will it affect us' standpoint.

Cheers!

I think one thing that's been mentioned in there, 'commercial revenue', is where we can do some good work.

A European campaign will surely bring in new support, and as a result, more merchandise sales etc.

I dare say the influx of african players, top quality ones at that, will increase sales on that continent, we were also linked to Bradley before he went to Villa, a signing which would potentially have tapped the massive market of the USA.

I believe you get an extra 500k for each place you move up the premier league, so even if we finished 8th, which is a very realistic target, we'd be lookng at pulling in £3million extra on last season that way, we've also got rid of a load of dead wood on 20k plus a week contracts this season, and stuck to a relatively low wage cap for the new lads.

Re sponsorship, European competition will surely bring in advertising and sponsorship revenues from more multi national companies as well, the £8million Fulham earned was likely based on TV revenue and prize funds, there's a few quid to be earned on top of that.

We're in profit for the transfers in and out this years, we had a sizeable deficit here last 2-3years,, based on all these factors, it looks like we're in a decent position going into this 'new era', based on the constant and sterling work of Quinn, Walton and Ellis Short.

Good read, as usual, cheers for that!

I think improving our sponsorship will be a key area. Wouldn't be surprised at all if we have a 'money spinning' pre season as opposed to a weekend in Portugal.
