Chelsea are apparently in pole position to sign Rodwell in January. Does this mean that there not after Tiote ????

I don't think they ever were. Tiote is too similar to Mikel, Essien and Romeu. Rodwell seems more realistic as he can play CB too and would offer them a little something different.

Makes sense, Chelsea need some young English talent to replace the heartbeat of their side over the last 10 years. Joe Cole went, A Cole, Lamps and Terry are nearing the end. They ened some of the top class young english players, Rodwell is certainly that.

To be honest I don't even think that Tiote will leave Man U have a big list of targets, Chelsea don't want a defensive midfielder and Liverpool will think twice to spend more big money on our players!

I think man u's problem is a creative force in mid field. I'd be surprised if they went after tiote like.

They need both to be honest. They don't have a top class central midfielder. They have Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley. They also use Giggs and Jones in there. Not one out of those 6 is really of a standard you'd expect in a Man U first choice player. Fletcher is a write off for now, Anderson can't stay fit, Carrick is sub standard, Giggs is old, Jones a centre back. I think Man U would be one of the most likely places for Cheik to end up.

Totally agree. Central midfield is Man United's weakest area by a country mile.

I think jones has the ability to play that position perfectly. Man u would have to pay us alot of money for tiote and I can't see them doing it. Not in jan anyway. With vidic also out, fergi has some thinking to do.

On the Ja606 thread on the Chelsea board about the same topic, some lad who claims to have connections to Rodwell reckons he always told mates he would only leave for Man U or Newcastle. Can't be bothered to post link as I'm about to have tea!

Jones will almost certainly replace Rio at centre back. Man U need a permanent solution now if they want to progress. Vidic out means a fragile Rio so Jones is gonna be needed with Smalling. Evans is a bit under Man U standard. Ferguson is not daft, he'll know. To get close to Barca (which will be his biggest driver at present alongside their neighbours) they have to improve ball retention. He needs two players in there with rock solid technique, one defensive mind, one to replace Scholes. Tiote is a perfect fit, the question is will they back him to the tune of 25m? I would question whether they can afford not to back him if they want another title. Man C are relentless and will probably buy again.

They wouldn't pay the going rate for Schneider so will they pay a substantial fee for tiote?? We hold all the cards.

they haven't really replaced scholes that's the type they need

Anyone find in Scholes' later years he wasn't talked about much, but now that he's retired all pundits can do is go on about how they haven't replaced him? Don't get me wrong, a creative CM is what they need, but he's gotten so much attention this year than he had for several years when they were still winning without as much contribution from him.
