So far Martinez has done better & it's simple as that.

Hence why GP is superior in his short reign ATM, Martinez had a decent squad and struggled for years.. GP had champ players at best IMO & abit of reverse psychology steered our club to a 8th season in the premiership! **** I'm proud of that

    There's two things I'd say.

Firstly, clubs like ours are on a slippery slope and a 'dash for glory' could have us doing a 'Leeds'.

They were spending money for fun and looked like they were taking over the world.
Now they're a laughing stock, playing in a **** ground in the lower leagues.

Secondly, how would you 'sell' Sunderland to a foreign international? .......... "Errrr, canny fishing off the pier, the Bridges is ****e but you can get to the Metro Centre on the tram I think & there's an airport not that far away."

I've never got the part of selling a club to the player, 38 games in a season and that obviously not including cup runs so for most of the year a player wouldn't spend all of their time in Sunderland. At the end of the day and the trend of today is I wanna play somewhere nice blah blah.. Every one is forgetting about the jersey, town. Culture mateship they play for as a lot of fellas have previously said on here it's all for $ nowadays unfortunately.

The reason Wigan went down was because they kept on selling there best players & Martinez has won a cup. at this moment in time he is better.

We're all living in the modern world and have to be realistic ....... Sunderland has little glamour does it?

Imagine saying to your lass, we can either go to live in London, with it's incredible variety, airports, shops, etc or Grimsby.

That's what your up against at Sunderland I'm afraid.

I'm just looking at it with rose tinted specs smug.. Totally get what your saying though, obviously I don't live there but would love to see players signing for us based on their experiences with the manager, club and fans.. To me that far outweighs a city skyscraper shopping experience...

Players & wives, with massive disposable income, want somewhere to spend it .......... sad but true.

Can't argue with that, although a football career spans maybe a decade... Shopping will last forever with these money hungry bitches!!! Lol <cheers>

So why did Giaccherini leave Italy for then? I tell you, MONEY & what about Middlesbrough in the mid 90s? class players went to them because of the money. it's all about money sorry.

Yes, I know that ........ my point was that, if the money is the same, players will usually choose somewhere more glamorous than Sunderland.

Thing is mate, how can we expect the likes of Alonso to feel any loyalty to Sunderland?

I lived in France, for over a decade, and feel no loyalty to the place whatsoever.

I went there, made as much money as I could, paid as little tax as possible and left without a backward glance.

If I had a choice between Roberto Martinez and Gus poyet, I'd choose GP for sure' sad state of affairs that footballers are chosen living circumstances over their football development!

Not so, the money is a given, but after that the bright lights hold sway, for the international jet setters, you just have to look at the big London clubs, they have no problems recruiting.
