One report says this
Cebolla is training in the United States with Atletico but could venture to England to close out the deal.
Who do you believe <bubbly>

I've never seen him play Vince, well not that I can remember, Saw a few Atletico games last season but there's so many Rodriguez's kicking about :p. I can see he's got a pedigree though, but I do need to rely in people who know of him. It's not an Exciting signing for me, it's more of an intrigue signing. Can't wait to see him.
Yeh little is known really but if he comes well you ne ver know <bubbly>

Cristian Rodriguez has all but finalised his astonishing move to @SunderlandAFC from @Atleti. Wow. @e_sunderland

Class signing if true & if it is then we don't need Borini anymore.

How do you work that out? Rodriguez doesn't double up as a striker. One's right footed and the other one is Left. There's no way this is Borini's alternative imo, this is it's own signing, if we move on from Borini it will be for an alternative target.

You should read that Roker Report article on how Gus wants his squad to look, may give you a bit more clarity in what we're looking for and how the squad is going to shape up.

Just my opinion is we wont sign both Borini & Rodriguez. if we do then were is Borini, Rodriguez, Johnson & Giaccherini all going to play? all them players signed for Sunderland because they want to play first team football. most of the time we play 4-3-3 so that means 2 out of the 4 will be bench players. just can't see it.

Well for a start you need to stop thinking about the starting line up and look at the squad. It's all about making the squad work these days fella, football has moved on, any of those players could start in any given fixture.

Everything you've asked is explained here.

Gus has stated he wants a 23 man squad, four strikers with one that can play wide. Rodriguez isn't a striker, he simply isn't Borini's alternative. Read the article, it makes complete sense for start to finish. It's full of Gus quotes telling us how he wants the squad to look.

<laugh> Starting 11? it's about competition for places mate. I'll fix the quote code eh? <ok>

We will see pal but I tell you now players like Rodriguez isn't coming to Sunderland to sit on the bench. if Giaccherini starts on the bench week in week out this season then we will start seeing him moan about the lack of playing time.

They'll be rotated. They'll all see plenty of game time, drag yourself out of the past, we've got modern progressive head coach now. Bet you didn't even click the link, it's all there, including the quotes about the 4 strikers with one that can play wide. There are two places left in the squad for wide men, one is Rodriguez, the other has to be able to play up front too. Not mention of a starting line up because the squad is being built around a system, not individual players.

I think Baz has a good point though, Rodriguez has said he wants to go to a club where he'll play. Isn't getting enough games at Atletico.

I think he'll play midfield rather than winger.

Personally i don't care what the lad wants myself, If he earns a run in the team then great. We're building a squad around a system not a player. Poyet says he's got the right ethic that he's looking for and I'm sure Rodriguez has been fully informed about Gus' vision. No player has the right to complain at not getting games if somebody is performing better and I doubt he will if everything Gus says about him is true.

Weirdly, I agree with Baz on this one - sort of. It's clear from what Gus has said that he'd love to have both Rodriguez and Borini in his squad, as per the article you linked, but there's no way Borini will come just to be part of a rotation system. Remember at the start of last season? He was getting the odd game here or there and kicked up a massive fuss, his agent actually publicly threatened to try to have the loan cancelled iirc. Fabio won't come to play about half a season, no way. I reckon Gus knows that.

Also, I think it's been mentioned Poyet had said he would only be taking people to Portugal who would be in contention for the first team this season, and Mavrias has gone out there but the article hasn't included him in the squad list. I think Gus will take a long hard look at him and decide if he thinks he's ready. If not, we still need another winger (preferably one who can play CF also), but I can't see it being Borini personally.
