Cristian 'Cebolla' Rodriguez may be the next new arrival at Sunderland, after reports emerged suggesting his signing could be made official within a matter of hours. Uruguyan journalist Martin Charquero, who works for Tenfield and Gol TV, tweeted that Rodriguez's move could be confirmed as soon as today; It's interesting to note that Tenfield and Gol TV are both owned by Paco Casal, the agent who was reportedly in London recently negotiating Rodriguez's move to Sunderland, so although the time frame mentioned in the tweet may be slightly off with any move more likely to happen in the next few days rather than today, we should hopefully be able to look forward to 'The Onion' being unveiled by Sunderland in the near future. Gus Poyet has made no secret of his desire to see Sunderland sign the Atletico Madrid midfielder and his imminent arrival would provide a big boost to the head coach's plans, particularly with a move for Fabio Borini stalling.
What its possible to have a type. Anything with a fanny and a pulse will do for me. In some cases the pulse isnt actually required.
It has been rather quiet for Sunderland so far this transfer window but their fans still flock into the Football Transfer Tavern hoping that they will yet land some more reinforcements. They all have their fingers crossed that the club don’t sign another Jozy Altidore-type player and who can blame them! But Black Cats manager Gus Poyet is still trying to work his magic behind the scenes and according to The Telegraph, he wants to persuade his Uruguayan compatriot Cristian Rodriguez to join the ranks at the Stadium of Light. The winger, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid, signalled that he wants to leave the Spanish giants following a season spent largely on the sidelines. With Atleti bringing in Real Sociedad’s Antoine Griezmann any day now too, Rodriguez is willing to concede that his spell in the Spanish capital is over. Despite being crowned La Liga champions last term, the 28-year old has had a largely unsuccessful spell with the Spaniards having made just 14 league starts over two seasons. Success in the pursuit of RodrÃguez would be a confidence boost to the Mackems having already missed out on Swansea City defender Ashley Williams who decided to stay and sign a new contract with the Welsh side. The permanent deal for Liverpool attacker Fabio Borini is also hanging in the balance but Poyet feels his national bond with Rodriguez will come to Sunderland’s advantage. “I had a chat with people in Uruguay, who are obviously desperate for RodrÃguez to come with us,” Poyet said. “At the moment it’s a possibility, but it’s no more than that. He’s a player that I admire a lot because he’s got power, desire and experience playing with the top teams. He wants to play football, he’s desperate to be playing week-in, week-out.” What a knacker this journo is btw
